Fourth, the biggest news coming out of Portland is that an attempt has been made to try and involve Belizean Players Woodrow West and Ian Gaynair in Match fixing – that is he try to get them to throw the game so the US would win. The man first met them in Guatemala, attempted to befriend them – and then called them again in Portland – where he met them at a mall near to the hotel

A few quotes from Belizian players about their encounter with the match fixers. I would have hate to see the scoreline if they threw the game.

The funny thing is, your philosophy student budget could fund the Belize national team for a year.

anyone ever read exactly how a player throws a match anyways?

like, does a player intentionally make an "errant pass" right at the 18 to allow a 1 on 1 or something? what are the mechanics for throwing a match in soccer?

Have we all laughed about Celtic losing to Greuther Fuerth 6-2 yesterday? That could've been fixed

Youtube the highlights from the US - El Salvador friendly in January (?) 2009.

It wouldn't shock me if the Guatemala match on Friday was fixed. The refereeing last night was hella suspect last night, but that may just be a case of a shitty ref crew. That offside call was laughable.

One was a goalkeeper (didn't play) and the other was a defender. If I was going to throw a game as a defender, I'd just mimic Jonathan Bornstein's positioning

I think that it'd be easier to "accidentally" get caught upfield or out of position than to play a shitty square ball in my own half

I don't get it. The US game was a sure thing from the start. Why would anyone waste their time to fix it?

that makes sense. also a GK being paid off would be a little easier to just be like 'ahhh...DAMN YOU GUYS, gaahh, how did I miss that one!!! next time, next time.'

If they weren't looking to have them do something really specific, they could have influenced the spread. I don't think that anyone would question 10-0 when everyone was expecting 8-0 (or whatever the spread was).

Or every aspect of Andre Santos's tenure at Arsenal.

I actually think I have heard something about it and its not so much the final score usually but prop bets like first throw in or will there be a yellow card in the 10th - 20th minute stuff like that.

that would also make sense. I forgot how nuanced and minutia-oriented soccer betting can be.
