LINK

quote:

Southern Californian 10-year-old star Ben Lederman visited and worked out at Barcelona's La Masia training complex in April. That trip turned into a two-year development contract with the club's youth academy.

The American soccer prodigy, who has a similar style of play and ball control skills as Barcelona star Andres Iniesta, signed with the team's academy to become the first American to ever do so. He will be reevaluated after his initial two-year stay to determine whether or not his contract will be extended.

Lederman's parents are also reportedly moving to Spain to be with their son as he pursues his soccer dreams.

Video in the link was kinda useless, these are better:
one
two

Now Bob needs to get in this little booger's ear and remind him that he has a duty to remain faithful to Old Glory, because growing up in the best academy in the world to play for the best team in the world is no excuse to defect, you selfish little shite.

I heard about this kid and his team. They crushed the Barça youth team they played. Pretty awesome.

I wish the videos were better. It's hard trying to watch 10 year olds looking for just one player, even if they play better than my adult league team.

Does this mean he'll be eligible to represent Spain if he's good enough to compete internationally? Because if he is, you know he will... Because FML.

yeah, it'll probably be Rossi pt. 2.

I guess we should hope that he becomes disillusioned with the youth system and at 16 becomes eager to sign a professional contract and gets bought out by a team in another country. or that he stays and is good, but not good enough to crack the A team or La Furrrria Roja.

The Barca Academy knows what they're doing, but ten years old?!? There have to be a thousand ten year olds who dominate their local leagues in the US, but I don't see how there's any way to tell which ones will be future pros. I guess the teams at the top can just buy any promising kid at that age and see what happens later on.

Will his first training session consist of learning to flop? What are the odds?

Not that I know of, but citizenship rules seem pretty lax with FIFA.

Ben Lederman transferred to CalSouth FC after breaking into a dorm and stealing some laptops.

officials, going after young boys, alledged ineligible players, coaching carousels, paying reps to have games played in your place, too many tattoos, too much money... all for a start...
