We have been weak on set pieces. Weak deliveries weak defending. I felt like last season we were better.

Don’t shoot me for being the messenger, that said we are good for Champions league which was the goal going into the season, but I don’t see us winning the title with this group.

With Jesus, and ESR, both out and really no one else really stepping up as a reliable goal scorer but Saka we are going to be dropping points left and right against every team that parks the bus on us. Unless Man City slips up or something we are in real trouble.

They are all going to put 8 or 9 in the box, double Saka and concede possession and counter l.

Interesting you point that out but agree with you 100%. We have given up game tying and winning goal last two games on set pieces and we are a joke on counter kicks, so much so, I saw us actually pass on one the last 5 minutes. Much much improvement needed here

Ramsdale is horrid on corners, and any cross really. Been saying it for a while now.

How does Odegaard not take that final free kick? Absolutely pathetic from Vieira.

It’s a good tactic because we squeeze them so high up and don’t do shite with it that just a misplaced ball or something and the other team is at the races really putting our defense into chaos.

But when we attack and the ball goes out to saka, oh look they get back into a bank of 9 in front of the keeper and just sit waiting for us to do it again.

I feel like I am an expert on this. Most of my sons teams has this exact issue, a lot of high skilled technical players but only one or two real goal scorers. I remember getting 80 shots to zero one time and ending 0-0.

They had a very good defense and my son was an allstar goalie but if you just sit around all game with little or no action it’s hard to keep your concentration etc

Simple as. Chin the count. Up the RA!

I've said 'chin the count' repeatedly since you introduced me to the phrase. Gotten the fiancée on it too.

Dude is tSmartest guy on here for sure. I even saw him mention commotio cordis while Hamlin was on the field. Then the next day some dolt on the OT said commotio cordis wasn’t really a thing because it was a latin expression.

I didn’t get the non VAR offsides non reversal either but let’s be honest it had nothing to do with the goal. That’s 2 to 4 points given up last few games due to inability to defend set pieces. Must get better

To be fair, cwill mentioned commotio cordis in a thread from like early 2021(?).

It absolutely had everything to do with the goal. The VAR crew focused on the wrong people to check offside. Lee Mason never checked to see if the player was off on the assisting pass, which he was.

quote:

Brentford’s controversial equaliser against Arsenal was WRONGLY allowed to stand because of a human error by VAR, who failed to draw the correct offside lines. Lee Mason did NOT EXAMINE whether Christian Norgaard was offside before crossing for Ivan Toney to score. [@SamJDean]
quote:

PGMOL can confirm its Chief Refereeing Officer Howard Webb has contacted both Arsenal and Brighton & Hove Albion to acknowledge and explain the significant errors in the VAR process in their respective Premier League fixtures on Saturday. Both incidents, which were due to human error and related to the analysis of offside situations, are being thoroughly reviewed by PGMOL.
