Nketiah was just awful..
He wasn’t in the squad today. I watched about 75% of the game today. They definitely had much better chances even though we did control a majority of the game (which is pretty normal for us). Positives: Ben White is an upgrade at RCB immediately and Lokanga continues to impress. Negatives: we still can’t create shite in the final 1/3 and our set piece defending is terrible.
We need to decide who starts at center forward between Laca and Auba depending on their form or our opponent. Auba just doesnt get it done on the wing (and unfortunately I think he is fading very quickly). We desperately need someone to create from our midfield; Bernardo Silva would be a nice addition.

Chris Wheatley just tweeted that we started negotiations for Aaron Ramsdale.

I fricking hate this club. fricking hate.

We could've kept Emi Martinez who loved the club is way better than Leno but nooooooo.

Im thinking we get ramsdale and odegaard.

look we are dumb for putting ourselves in this gk position.

But thy want homegrown and someone to take over for Leno.

Is ramsdale the best english keeper not already in the PL?

He was Bournmouth and Sheffields player of the season, but i guess when you get relegated your gk may be the only one that looks like he gives a shite because he will have a lot of saved shots.

The reported is 24 mil with add ons up to 30. And hes 23, really young for a keeper.

quote:

Ramsdale has a 68.21% save percentage, which on the face of things, isn’t great. However, the 22-year-old faces 4.86 shots per 90, making 2.99 saves, which is impressive. His save percentage is so low because logically, the more shots you face, the more chance you have of conceding.

His good positioning gives him a better chance of holding shots, rather than palming them out for a corner or throw-in, or even worse, spilling the ball straight to the opposition.

To be fair, Leno was probably our player of the season before he went down hurt. Emi wanted to be #1, but if we couldn't guarantee him that spot, then he was always going to move. I think it was a toss up at the time on who they would keep.

They still need to sign a #2 GK this year. Ramsdale has a chance to challenge Leno and replace him when Leno's contract is up or when he is sold next season.

I wouldn't be upset at the deal if we bought Ramsdale next season. Buying him now seems like a vast waste of resources considering he will be the #2 keeper. It makes no sense

Word is we aren’t buying him since Sheffield wouldn’t go down on the asking price

I am fine with this. If you have seen much of Ramsdale, he makes some amazing saves then turns around and does something silly. He may be amazing someday, but he is not right now. He needs to learn distribution and organization.

I haven’t but he sounds like the goalie version of Mustafi

I like him but the price was ridiculous for a backup keeper. Wish we would have kept Emi but I guess there was no way we were getting rid of Leno at that point. I hope we get a cheap short term option to back up Leno and spend that money in the midfield/attack.

I’d go for Johnstone then. Supposedly available for 15 million

As per @gunnerblog, Arsenal have decided to pursue alternative goalkeeper targets after Sheffield United refused to lower their demands for Aaron Ramsdale.

Officials from both clubs met today but failed to find a breakthrough over the final fee. #AFC
Curious as to who they go for. Ramsdale would have been expensive, but also would fill a homegrown spot. Need someone to give Leno some competition this year, but also potential to be GK1. Going into the game Friday with Runarsson as GK2.

I know they want someone homegrown and preferably young but someone like Matt Turner would be cheap and a quality back up. But that’s just my American bias.

Lol just as i was talking myself into ramsdale. But i guess if we hold steady either us or sheffield might have to move on our valuation come the 31st.

Onana is the only other keeper weve linked with, so no idea who we turn to.

Martin Ødegaard has always been Arsenal priority, more than Maddison. Arsenal board now waiting for Real Madrid final decision on Ødegaard future - they’d be ready to bid for the Norwegian talent. ? #AFC #Real

Joe Willock deal with Newcastle will be ‘completed soon’. #NUFC

Oh, and Auba and Laca will both be out today with "illness". Starting off the season hot. Wonder if Balogun gets a run, or if Arteta goes with Pepe, Saka, and Gabi up top.
