ah missed that. for some reason i thought he had another year on his deal. guess not. good for him. sad it never worked out for him here. i'll always remember those 3 months in what, 10-11?, where he was amazing. then he got hurt and never got near that level of form.

weird to think that both of our Swiss CBs had fairly long spells of being very good, then both fell off the map entirely.

They were both hit or miss. Djourou was so good with Koscielny until he hurt his shoulder.

The problem was we were soon banged up djourou had spells where he played rb or lb can't remember. But we had to play him out if position when Gibbs, per and sagna were hurt.

makes no sense that Senderos was an integral part of the back 4 which took us to the CL final in 05-06.

also, went to the FC Dallas-NYRB match yesterday. Henry had an assist, but damn is he lazy as frick and constantly annoyed playing with those guys. he showed more effort jogging to the locker room after the match than he did most of the match.

i wonder if the Vela rumors are true.

I kind of hope so. He's worth 20+ and can get him for 3.3 I read. He's gotten a chance to develop a lot since leaving Arsenal. I would like to snag him. I guess worst case scenario you can sell him if it doesn't work out and make a profit?

What do ya'll think?

i don't think he's really cut out for the EPL. La Liga suits his style perfectly. i'd rather leave him be.

but it would be the most Wenger thing ever if we bought him back for cheap then immediately sold him to a La Liga squad for a nice little profit.

I feel like for only 3mil it would be harmless to test his impact. wouldn't be the worst 3mil we've ever spent.

Plus he doesn't like the Mexican national team so he moves up a notch in my book.

ETA: Yeah you know that's the first think Wenger thought of ... a Vela flip

Just doesn't seem worth it to pay that plus wages for a player that, even if he replicates his form for the past year or two, isn't really what we need to compete for trophies. Best case, he's a decent squad player. Worst case, he bombs again and loses value, and there's some unrest caused. Pretty good chance he doesn't want to come back.

He probably won't lose value if we buy him for peanuts. He's still a commodity in La Liga where he's been performing well. There is little risk in the initial transfer in my view, which makes it likely or slightly more than likely in our most economical manager's eyes.

I don't really see winger as a need unless they bring in Griezmann who brings a great scoring threat. Walcott, Ox, Gnabry, Polid, Santi (post-Ozil), Ryo, and Jack, Rosicky and Ramsey providing cover. Pretty set at that position especially with Ox and Gnabry developing nicely.

Walcott and Griezmann on either side of Ozil would be beautiful though. I'm just salivating at the thought of Ozil sending amazing passes their way all game. I've also warmed up to the thought of Remy, only 10 million and he has 14 league goals with a poor Newcastle team. Brings pace and could form a nice partnership with Giroud.

I do. I really want a fast/quick Walcott type player on the left so we can see a truly awe-inspiring counter attack. I also wouldn't mind a faster CF but I can see how Giroud's still useful with that set up.

Long ball out to Giroud, he uses his pretty nice hold up skills to head it down to Ozil who one touches it to a streaking Walcott/Griezmann. blam score.

Or when we're playing those bunker teams Giroud does seem useful in his flicks around the box. He's just too slow to be a release valve.

i'm just saying, i wouldn't be particularly pleased if we signed Vela. i'd would rather us bring in bigger players. the days of picking up squad players just because they're cheap should be over. (i hope) we can do better. if worse comes to worse and we whiff on other major striker targets, he wouldn't be the worst consolation prize.

i'm just unconvinced he'd be physically able to take the pounding of being a no. 9 in our system and him playing out wide isn't a great option.

I guess I should have been clearer ... I don't want him to be "the striker" we buy. I just think he would be a nice compliment. I think we might need two since Beowulf is gone. That would leave us with Giroud, Sanogo, Vela, and [insert great striker]. All I meant was for 3.3 mil you'd buy yourself a SOLID squad player

And if he doesn't pan out just sell him for a profit to la liga. There is nothing to lose with buying Vela.

I don't want to jynx anything, but I'm still standing by giroud as I have all season. Pool looks great in attack, but with out defense they aren't winning a God damn thing. Which is why I say spend the cash on d and a cm. Hope to bring in cover for giroud. You don't need Suarez to win a trophy.

If Arsenal somehow land Javi Martinez I will go absolutely nuts. What an amazing midfield with depth this team could have. However, I don't believe it for a second. I truly believe they pay people just to go: "Hmmmm, Javi Martinez has fallen out of favor at Bayern Munich. Who needs a holding midfielder of his quality? Arsenal and Man City do of course, go post it online. ARSENAL MAKE INQUIRY/INTRIGUED ON JAVI MARTINEZ."

If this somehow is true, how much do you think he'd cost?
