A question: Has Matty Flamini become undropable? He's a pretty stellar player. Great positioning, good passing, good tackling, and most of all, a vocal leader on the pitch. Arteta and Flamini is an axis that can compete with any midfield pair in the league. Hell with the way Rambo is playing now I don't know how you drop him in place of Arteta.

We still need another striker, but maybe Poldi or Walcott can step up. Both don't work as a single striker, but they are serviceable.

I think he is at this point. Arsenal's defensive shape has been much better organized since he has started playing. It was obvious even in when he came on for an injured Wilshere for a half in his first action of the year.

the only thing that really suggests he's forgotten about Ozil is the title, which I'm sure the editor picked out. the article itself is on our defensive midfield position. flamini has been pretty fricking great for us. i was skeptical of the signing, but i'll admit i was wrong.

as for the article itself, i disagree with his opinion of arteta. he understates how immense he's been for us these past two years in that role. i don't think Flamini should necessarily displace him. and i think against better opposition they should start together. the more rigid 4-2-3-1 we played tuesday with the 2 man shield and 4 fluid attackers worked very, very well. much more balance than our displays with more of a 4-1-4-1, which is what it normally went too with just one of Arteta or Flamini playing.

The additions of Flamini and Ozil make us much more flexible in terms of tactical choices I'm really excited to watch this squad. I'll be in Memphis on Sunday, hopefully I'll be able to watch the match.

Did you even read the article? Ozil was a brilliant signing, but Flamini has added something we haven't had since we moved to the double pivot in 2010. Flamini has given us an edge that we've lacked for too long. Ever since Song moved up the pitch, and became an undisciplined B2B player, we've been turned in midfield far too often. Flamini is so disciplined that I can't remember him venturing very far forward. Yet he has the ability to move and recycle possession, a skill few DM's possess at the level Wenger requires. In the last 34 games Flamini has played for Arsenal, we've only lost once.

Arseblog about Flamini.

Like it, or not, every team needs to have an edge. It’s a physical game, you can get bullied if you allow it, and this now looks like an Arsenal side that won’t. Will other players take their cue from Flamini? They’ll have to, or he’ll point and shout at them. Adding that kind of character to the side has given us something different, so all credit to the manager for spotting that and the player’s desire to do something in his second spell at the club.

Well said.

In some ways Arteta was out of his depth at DM. Mainly it was his inability to deal with athletic players, which required him fouling them. Flamini has a bit more range. I'd really like for Arteta to return to the more advanced role he played his last year at Everton. He worked well with Felliani in that system, and more creativity couldn't hurt.

It's amazing the additions of Flamini and Ozil have given us more tactical variation. We can both counter attack and work the ball in possession. The last Wenger teams able to do that were the Invincibles era teams.

there's a guy on twitter who made a comp of Flamini last year at Milan who said it's incredible how much better on the ball he is at Arsenal. he does move and recycle well for us, but apparently he looked afraid to even receive the ball at Milan. speaks a lot to Wenger and his ability to inspire players through trusting them.

i laughed at the article on arsenal dot com when flamini arrived about him actually being faster than he was when he left, but it seems to have been true. he looks very spritely. pretty amazing that we've been searching for a DM for years but none fit the bill and now we've got one that has worked perfectly off the scrap pile.

Pisses me off that he left in 2008. It basically changed our transfer strategy, as Wenger promised never to let any player in his prime run his contract down after Matty left.

had never really thought of that, but now that you mention it...

you're making me dream of the prospect and Ozil and RvP playing together and i swore i'd never do that again.

As a Spurs fan, I am both amazed and disgusted that Wenger has you guys in such a great position. Y'all looked screwed late into the window. I remember visiting this thread for some entertainment. Now you might be the favorites to win the league.

still a bit early for that. we haven't had the toughest of schedules, though it stands to reason as Ozil acclimates and guys come back from injuries, we will improve. should definitely know in a month or so if we'll be serious contenders.

Ditto.

It is amazing. Adding two players has really changed the entire attitude of the club and the fans. Neither played in the "abberation" match.
This team is foremost "a team". Can't say that about any of the other contenders at the moment.
