Anyhow, I think the bigger problem is we have a ton of players who are at best squad players for a top 4 squad.
Also the lineup choices today...
Giroud didn't cut it, should've been something like
Poldi - Walcott - Cazorla instead backed up by
---Rosicky
Arteta - Jack

When Cazorla doesn't play well we don't have a chance against a quality opponent like Tottenham. He was a non-factor today. The match was entertaining and played at a very fast pace. It was the lack of a decent last ball and the absence of a quality finisher that did us in.

Part of that though was having him out left instead of cam or right like he's used to
Also with Walcott and Giroud we basically play two incomplete strikers with our most proven forward on the bench in podolski

No idea what poldi did to get benched for the last month

I'm sure that it's been mentioned but our defense has had too many lapses lately.
In the past, we've had the ability to outscore the opposition, but lately those chances--for whatever reason, and there are several--haven't been converted.

Also, I don't understand the criticism of Ramsey today. Pressed well. Passed well. He and Arteta really shut down Bale and their midfield going forward. Created our only goal by winning a free kick with a really nice bit of skill 1v3. Had our best chance blocked by a very good BAE recovery. Thought he, Jenkinson, and Arteta were our brightest spots today.
Bale scored and looked pretty dangerous throughout.
His skill in the corner to draw the kick that led to the goal was nice.
Beast, stats don't tell the whole story, and I'm pretty sure those aren't correct anyway. Where is the red line indicating the cross that he SKY'D over everyone?
And his shot at the end that went well wide

wut? Sure he had the goal (which was on Per and TV5, not the MF) only other good chance was on that BAE cross where he took it wrong-footed (on Monreal). He had a long range pot shot on a rebound. He was a threat for 2 instances. I thought we did quite well on him overall, though clearly the goal is all that really matters.

See, this is why I think you guys are just hating on him because he's Ramsey. One terrible cross gets exaggerated to an indictment of his whole performance. Passing it backwards, what 12 times in a game, becomes "EVERY TIME." He's not supposed to create in that position. He's supposed to swing it out to Jenkinson, feed it to the playmakers Wilshere, Santi, or Walcott, or to recycle possession. The stats show he did that pretty well today. I don't think he played great, but he did well. He, Arteta, and Jenkinson were the only 3 I thought played well today. The rest were average to poor.
As for Poldi, he hasn't played because of what I've talked about a lot, including before the last match. Wenger doesn't seem to trust Jack positionally to play the double pivot. We did it earlier in the year to mixed results and he's settled on Jack in the advanced role with Ramsey/Diaby alongside Arteta. Then the choice becomes who sits in the front 3. Wenger has chosen to keep Santi in and play more possession-oriented, intricate football by putting Santi in the same position he played at in Villareal. I don't know if he's afraid to go away from Giroud after how helpless we looked without a target man up top against Bayern, but at this point, it seems the only way Poldi gets starts is if Giroud sits. Though if we're fully going for it against Bayern, I'd imagine we'll role the dice with a Santi-Jack-Arteta midfield 3 and a Poldi-Giroud-Theo front 3 and hope goals arise.
Considering our inability to crack defenses with intricacy, I'd be down for Poldi getting a start and one of Jack or Santi sitting in the next league match. Need to inject some pace and widen things up. I also think the loss of Gibbs has negatively affected Poldi. Not only did Gibbs and Poldi have a good rapport, its much easier for the new guy Monreal to integrate if he's sharing the left side with an old friend.

He pointed out one error in the stats, you say he is just blasting Ramsey for being awful etc etc, who is using hyperbole now?
Posted on 3/3/13 at 7:38 pm to Jumbeauxlaya
Thanks Jumbeaux but we are wasting our breath. I just don't think Ramsey gets it done for us. He should have come off instead of Jenkinson, who looked far more dangerous.

Sorry, if I misunderstood your argument. I took a post which quoted mine and argued against every point I made about Ramsey, except for one, as you agreeing with Jumbeaux. You criticized him for a shot that was on target if it hadn't been blocked and banged your head, plus prior comments you've made on here about Rambo, so I thought it safe to assume you were ripping Ramsey.
And crosses are separate from passes on that app, IIRC.

And for the record, I don't disagree Jenkinson shouldn't have come off. I'd have sacrificed one of the midfield 3. On form for that day, it would've been Jack, but I could understand the logic of it being Ramsey instead because Jack is more likely to create a moment of brilliance, especially since Rambo was on a yellow.

Whats happened to Ramsey in the last year or so? I though he was a big young prospect for you guys after Jack?
Posted on 3/3/13 at 7:49 pm to TFTC
Well, the leg break didn't help his progress. Also he got played up top on the right, which he wasn't very good at.
Posted on 3/3/13 at 7:50 pm to Friend of OBUDan
Whats his ideal position? Attacking Mid, CM?
Posted on 3/3/13 at 7:55 pm to TFTC
Coming up, it was CAM. Now (apparently only to me at least) he's looked much better playing deeper on the pitch. Also filled in solidly as a make-shift RB. I imagine he'll be a utility player for us for a long time.

Ok well that explains that.

Dude, did you see the replay? The deflection barely made it move. It wasn't on target either way.

Yep.

similar to Hendo for us, he's played all over the midfield and as a RB, too...
Anyway, tough break today... If Arsene doesnt sure up that defense in the summer, shame on him... then again, everyone knew that was needed this past off season...

Like I was saying earlier I think Ramsey's main problems are the obvious leg break but less obviously a huge confidence issue.
Posted on 3/3/13 at 8:32 pm to cwil177
Yes I did. Here it is. LINK The timer messed up on me so I can't give you the exact minute:second mark, but its sometime after 16:00 on there. The deflection clearly sends the ball to the left and it wasn't that far wide left. I don't think it would've been a goal, but it definitely would've been on target.
