Ocegunda just signed with them. He is now prohibited to take any future US call ups. The dude has been with the U-18, U-20 US teams. Even played in the U-20 WC, recently.

they had some nasty 11 year old black kid in their youth system and they basically told him to take a hike. Now he is the captain on the galaxy u-11 team

That's funny. I saw something last night or two nights ago where Alexei was having a Twitter Q&A, some kid asked him if he had any suggestions for a kid trying to make the Galaxy academy- Lala's responds with 'tell them Chivas wouldn't have you.' thought that was pretty funny.

I hate the "reporter voice" that all of their journalists use in this show.

ehh, I don't think its all that dumb to target Mexican players and fans.

what was stupid was tying them to a specific Mexican team that would automatically turn off fans of other Mexican sides and going so hard after Mexicans that they blew off talented non Mexican players.

and come on now, we all know damn well certain teams target certain types of players for their market.

why do you think the Utah Jazz and Minnesota Timberwolves get so white at times?

now of course it seems Chivas has taken it too far and alienated players and fans but the basic idea of their plan is sound IMO. The execution has just sucked is all.

It wasn't merely marketing to Mexicans. It was an extension of Chivas Guadalajara's stupid arse policy of only using Mexican players, excluding naturalized Mexicans (e.g., Zinha could not play for Chivas Guadalajara) but including Mexicans born abroad. It would be like the Jazz or the Timberwolves not employing black players.

MLS teams have spent a ton a time and money trying to market to Mexicans, e.g., Chicago signing Nery Castillo and Temo Blanco. No one gives a shite about that.

And these teams also subsquently sucked once they acquired too many Caucasians. I think the Jazz and Timberwolves were at the peak of their popularity when they were led by Karl Malone and Kevin Garnett respectively; mainly because those teams won.

ETA: Chivas USA had the most support when it was led by good players (good by circa 2006 MLS standards) like Sacha Kljestan, Brad Guzan and Jonathan Bornstein.

well like I said, the idea itself wasn't bad, it was the execution that has sucked arse.

Without knowing anything else about Chivas, how is their policy any different than Athletic Bilbao's?

Well part of it is I don't think they're exclusively pulling foreigners in... just sticking to one race or whatnot

No, the idea sucked too.

Hopefully, they will be burned down and reborn soon. They're well on their way as most people hate them and what they stand for.

Probably not a whole lot beyond Chivas's ability to annoy me through their proximity. Though, I think that Bilbao isn't 100% stringent, and Chivas won't allow you to play for the US (I don't know how far Bilbao goes beyond just being Basque).

Chivas has employed foreign coaches in the past and even had Johan Cruyff as their sporting director for a while
