Tennessee was the same way the last time I took my recertification test about 5 years ago. I don't know if it's changed.

And you don't have to be USSF certified to ref high school in Alabama. You just have to pass AHSAA's online test.

So we have a few guys that mostly do football, basketball, etc.

I believe Enterprise headed into the postseason as the No. 1 team in 7A. Then when Auburn upset them in the first round, they had a much easier path to the final coming out of the South.

Yeah, looking at it now, Foley upset Davidson, so Auburn got them and McGill-Toolen. Vestavia in the final was the only other higher ranked team they beat.

Mobile soccer ain’t great.

I did the Prattville/Enterprise match in Prattville during the regular season. Prattville wasn't that good this year and Enterprise should have won, but they couldn't finish. Ended 0-0 and Prattville won in a shootout.

Enterprise had a better team last year.

My kid was elite level goalie so I am biased. (You May get a copy of my full tirade later this year. My kids are down and it’s festivus time and I am breaking out the pole) lol .....And you will probably agree with most of it.

A Red card is not the same as a unsportsmanlike ejection in football and the school should only be fined if it is an unsportsmanlike related red card. A high kick to the face of an opponent should be a red card but is solely to correct a safety issue of a player that is probably lacking some skill and thus playing recklessly. There should be no fine.

We beat the Birmingham/Huntsville teams all the time all over the state, just never in state finals. (Now you know who I am)

Btw, how are the refs selected for that game? You had some very good refs and some that looked land acted like they picked them up in parking lot.

There are also some serious visual issues on those fields as afternoon sun begins to set. Had a horrible call I was really pissed about but when I went to see his vantage point at half I saw how he missed it. Easy to see from stands but not when looking right into sun at field level. Why can you have an official in the box on disputed calls or review the film like they are going to do know in football?

Being ref is a thankless job particularly in bama when almost no fans really know the rules, so thank you for your service, and if I ever yelled at you, it was not out of disrespect

Points based system + input from regional directors and local associations.

Also, a lot of refs that they want turn them down. It's not lucrative enough. They also miss out on some good ARs because they require everyone to do at least one center during the weekend (but they are considering changing that).

You won't get an argument from the refs. Take it up with AHSAA.

Sounds like a mental problem. Sure as hell isn't because of "mountain air".

You going to pay for the extra refs?

That's going to happen at any venue in the state.

Are there any good clubs in S Alabama? Every team we play from the Mobile/Daphne/OWA area is garbage (from U11-13). The Texans from FWB seem way better than Mobile's...but that may just be the ages we're in. The other clubs are not A bracket teams. Where do y'all get the talent to compete?

My sons U19 was undefeated state champs from mobile and only even challenged once and full of stare and regional ODP and allstar players. But generally you are correct.

The problem with South Bama teams is Baldwin and Mobile need to be united like Biloxi Gulfport ocean springs. We had all the great defenders in my sons year and they had the strikers. We tried once as mobile bay United but travel back and forth was too much. Until They build the new bridge we will generally be inferior to Texans although our U00 or 01 owned them but they were also state champs nationally ranked and I think 2 or 3 in our region.

It just depends on the year and club involvement but in bama or south generally closest to military base and largest percentage of Hispanics are usually too biggest factors I have seen

Well it would probably cost at least an extra $40/game just for the additional ref. Then you'd have to pay for the communication devices, video equipment, and monitors. You're looking at probably well over $1000, and it's hard enough to get a school to buy a decent ball.

Gulfport is split between GCU and SMSC, and GCU has Gulfport (W) and Biloxi (E) clubs. We play SMSC, but have to either travel to S La or over your way for tournaments.

You're right though, Mobile needs a powerhouse club like BR (BRSC) and NOLA (LA Fire) to effectively gather the talent. Seems like an area that large could field a good squad.

We enjoy heading over that direction. The OWA fields are nice, hopefully they can figure out parkingon both sides...or along the road.

That I am going to do. Their failure to take care of that and the new concussion rules is going to get someone killed. I have years of film to show they have never done shite about it. My son had cracked ribs and concussions from field players just running him over time after time. The Damn orange beach tournament got so bad that none of the high level goalies I know would play in it. Or their parents would not let them.

Screwing up games is one thing, make a healthy active child a vegetable is another

We had a hard enough time talking the AISA into pitching in $50 to have a 4th official at their boys and girls finals.

Sounds like you need to have a talk with your son's coach about the concussion thing.

We're in the process of beginning a club in GS/Foley with OWA. It'll take a couple years to compete, but the talent and facilities are there.
