Meh. I think MLS is foolish.

Exactly which professional franchises (in any sport) in Florida are considered successful?

Struck out in Tampa, and Miami. Orlando is next I suppose.

Although I can see it actually working in Orlando.

ETA: my parents live in New Smyrna Beach, so I'll definitely attend an Orlando match at some point.

I was talking about any sport, really.

The Heat only draw during the finals. The Magic drew when Shaq was there. The Marlins are a joke. The Rays only draw when the Sox or Yankees are in town.. The Jags are a joke. The Dolphins are marginally above a joke. I think the two hockey teams do okay, but that's almost all people who winter in Florida. And I won't even count the two MLS franchises that folded, as those were a long time ago.

I just can't see how MLS thinks this will be any different.

Yes, I definitely agree with you. Across the board Florida is the biggest failure of a state in regards to professional sports.

Aren't the guys who own the Cosmos building a NY stadium too?

This is good news overall but doesn't mean MLS is going to Orlando.

No...it means that Orlando is building a stadium to attract a MLS expansion franchise.

New York is doing it.

San Antonio is doing it with their current stadium.

All Orlando has done is put in a bid for a franchise. Nothing is official, and NYC will most likely be the next team.

Yeah, nothing is official until it comes from the MLS office.

This Brazilian guy is saying he is going to make the investment.

This is about the fourth time in two months that a different city with a dubious ownership group debuted outlandish stadium mockups, while claiming MLS is ready to expand to their city.

Meanwhile, San Antonio actually has a stadium nearing completion.

Cool. Would be nice to have more southern MLS clubs, but it sucks that it's a huge risk to use the stadium in our WCQs.

If they were to expand to Orlando, at least Orlando has the whole British expat/tourist thing going on.
