Altidore Scores His First Goal In This MLS Season

Altidore's friend Giovinco hooks him up. Wonderful holdup play and positioning by Altidore with excellent distribution to Giovinco who then helps his teammate begin what will hopefully be a run of goals. Altidore dominates Parkhurst before finding a little luck with a deflection.

No, Altidore is a beast when healthy and in form. Problem is he gets injured at the most inopportune times, see WC 2014, Copa 2016.

Why doesn't he just take yoga and lean down? He can still have that strength with leaner muscle.

He has leaned down. He also thinks that the new treatment approach for his hamstring is the "right" treatment and should alleviate some of these issues. I hope he's right.
I'm not sure he's better than Bobby Wood at this point when they are both healthy (and I'm a huge Jozy fan). Jozy's record speaks for itself though. Not sure how to get Jozy, Wood, and Dempsey on the field at the same time in a way that works, however.

If nothing else, Altidore could still be a factor off the bench. He entered this match for Toronto in the second half and had an immediate impact even aside from this goal. Altidore is a physical force and his insertion late in a match against a tiring opponent could be a dangerous weapon for the USMNT.

If he never plays, how is he our best striker? I'm not disagreeing that he could be our best, but the dude is injury prone and can't stay on the field.

Altidore is not the future of the USNT if they want to reach the next tier. His hold up play has made his career, and every other aspect of his game is casual. Wood, Morris and Zardes all have more potential, and don't require the team being built around them like Jozy does. Throw in being injury prone, and it's clear the writing is on the wall that the U.S. needs to look a different direction.

Altidore appeared as a second half sub again in another match against RSL last night. He impacted this game as well with his positioning and holdup play, grabbing an assist on the match winning goal.

What Zardes does well affects the team in a more positive way. If that makes sense. I would rather have Zardes in the team than Jozy, considering we have another real striker option. Which I'm not sure we do.

You had me until Zardes
and Morris needs loads of work he has been inconsistent in MLS. He bags a few goals then won't be seen for a while. He should be lighting the league up with its level of defending.

How so by kicking the ball 8 yards in front of him with his awful first touch? It might fly in MLS but time and time again at the international level its a disaster.

Jozy in all aspect of the game is a better player. Bigger, stronger, more explosive, better finishing, better pashing and way more technical than Zardes will ever be.
Like I've said on here before Zadres was that kid coaches as a kid just put up top b/c he was faster than everyone but neglected to develop his game. Honestly with the way he is built and how he is in the air a real youth set up could have molded him into a hell of full back or center half.

Morris has to at least discover that he has a left foot. He has missed several easy goals this season because he is unable to use his left foot and attempts an awkward shot with his right foot. He also must improve his fitness so that he can be a factor for a whole match.
