You can read into why he pushed Dempsey for a move and "Benched" Jozy Altidore

I can only imagine what happened. IF he said something like this to Landon:

quote:

It is hard to listen to this story without hearing an echo of Klinsmann's recent barbed public challenges to Clint Dempsey. As Klinsmann describes it, his approach is confrontational. "When I come in here I tell the players straight to their faces 'I'm not content with where you are right now. Even if you play in the Premier League, I am here to get you to the next level.' When I get this feeling a player is giving me the sense that he has made it then he will hear from me that he hasn't made s---. That is my approach," he confides. "Not every player will buy into it. It's as simple as that."

Klinsmann on his team and selections for Hex.

quote:

While Klinsmann touched on several players, he spoke most about Feilhaber. Klinsmann said the veteran midfielder showed well during the recent January camp and friendly against Canada, but wants Feilhaber to demonstrate more consistency with Sporting Kansas City and the U.S. “We want him to become more a pusher in terms of being involved in the game on a consistent basis, every couple minutes, every two, three minutes,” said Klinsmann. “Here and there it seems like he’s fading out and coming back in and it’s a bit inconsistent. He’s working on that and that has to do obviously with the technical approach but also the physicality of it, the rhythm, the pace of a game. “We are thrilled that he’s moved to Kansas now and he will get pushed by Peter Vermes doing that. I have spoken to Peter about that already and we think he absolutely has the qualities, the technical capabilities to be part of the inner circle of the national team. Not being called in now for these games does not mean he’s out, not at all. … With World Cup qualifiers, friendlies and a Gold Cup coming up, there will be opportunities as well.”

Tim Chandler on playing for the US.

quote:

I feel very proud now to play for the U.S. National team and tomorrow for the first qualifying game with the national team,” Chandler said on Tuesday before the U.S. team’s training session at Estadio Olimpico Metropolitano. “Of course I was in the last game, in Russia, and I like the mentality of the team and of the trainer very much and I’m only proud to be here, and happy.” Chander pointed to the feeling of camaraderie within the team as one of the key reasons for finally deciding to commit to the United States. “The whole team are fine, and it’s like a little family and I very much like it,” Chandler. “I speak with (Klinsmann) a lot and he told me that he wanted me to make a future with the USA. That’s why I come here. I want to help the USA and I hope I can do it.

quote:

“It’s about time you know,” said U.S. goalkeeper Tim Howard. “It’s been a lot of back and forth. Probably too much if you ask me. That’s my opinion and Timmy, we think he’s a big part of the team. He’s young, but he brings a lot of grit and experience and he’s a really good player.

I would agree. Landon hasn't pushed himself as he could have. He has done great things for US soccer, but if he had ventured out of California he could have been even better.

This seems stupid. I don't know why you'd possibly alienate a great player because that's just "how you do it."

I remember reading about Sir Alex Ferguson's reaction to Eric Cantona's kung fu kick. He spent his post game speech yelling at someone else. He knew how to handle Cantona. Everyone's different.

Agreed. I think it's a good idea, but might not be the right way to come across.

Also to note,

Dempsey, GAM, Zusi, Bradley, Edu all have yellow cards. One more and they are suspended for the next game. :-S

one of the top comments: "How to make friends and influence people by Jurgen Klinsmann"

Yikes..that's a scary list. That was a good read on Jurgen. Interesting to see his reaction on the role of technology in coaching football here in the US compared to its use in Europe for soccer. I love Jurgy's enthusiasm, his vision and charisma, and up to this point most of his results. But still I am waiting to see a noticeable difference in the US's playing style. 18 months in and we see flashes of the "free flowing football", but here in the next year we're going to need to be seeing some strides. Agree or am I overreacting?

Edit: I think solidifying the back 4 with Cameron and Omar in the middle over the next 3-4 months will help get things going offensively for us if we have confidence in our back 4.

SAN PEDRO SULA, Honduras—Geoff Cameron is a relative newcomer to the United States national team, but he doesn't sound intimidated by the potential sell-out crowd.
quote:

"We know tomorrow's a big game for them and for us as well. They are making it a national holiday. The crowd behind them; everything in their favor. If we go out there with the attitude that we have had these last couple of months, especially with how we've played at home, if we bring that attitude and that determination that we've had down here, I think we'll be alright,"

"It's Houston, man, I don't mind," Cameron said, jokingly lamenting the fact that he's lost his tan since transferring to Stoke. "I enjoy the humidity. I'm used to it."

Also, huge bullshite that the Honduran government makes tomorrow a national holiday in order to get people to go to the game.

1.) Maybe if your federation scheduled the game at night, people would be able to attend after getting off work, you know like the rest of the world.

2.) This is obviously a bit on the relatively trivial side of things. Maybe your country would be slightly less of a huge hyper-violent, impoverished shithole, if you encouraged your people to work on a normal Wednesday afternoon, instead of making a national holiday out of ONE qualifying match. This is how the first world works. We don't take off arbitrary days of the week to watch one sporting event.

Such bullshite. These kinds of rules infuriate me.

I think it's a safety thing. Have the game end before dark. People would have rioted if they weren't let off of work.

Also, why don't yellows reset in with the next round starting?

They've played midweek qualifiers at night in the past. If rioting and violence are such a problem, Honduras has several other stadiums in slightly less hyper-violent cities where games can be played. It's obvious that they scheduled it in the middle of the day to get the most out of the humid weather.

I'm fine with a day game during the weekend as that is a fairly normal custom. This is Honduras again resorting to typical Central American bullshite to get an advantage against a better team.

Same reason the Mexicans have games at Azteca and we have winter games against Central American teams in breezy Columbus. I'm not going to fault them for it.
