It absolutely can. Points at the beginning of the season count just as much at the end of the season.

then your club isn't doing its job

playing two mid week matches with a fresh squad shouldn't kill your league campaign over a 9 month season.

if you can't beat some club from a terrible league to get in the group stages its time for some reevaluation.

Doesn't always work that way. Hoffenheim isn't some club from a terrible league.

They should walk them.

It won't kill it, but you don't think 2 extra points could affect how you approach the last 3 games of the season?

if you are in a tight title race with 3 matches to go

you play to win all three

In theory, but if it's the 2nd half and you know the scores from the other games, it will definitely impact your approach.

Doesn't have to be like that. Let's say it's the next to last game. You have a 2 point lead on 2nd place and they are losing their match. You would like a win to clinch, but a draw still helps you out a lot. You are going to play that 2nd half differently than if you were even on points.

What about goal difference? In any case...

You'd play to win, but not at the expense leaving yourself open for a loss.

Regardless, those 2 points can mean the world of difference over the last 3 weeks.

The FA Cup is still a prestigious trophy in England, and you'd be a fool to not want your team to win it. I'd be straight pissed if Arsenal sent out a U-23 team against Tottenham in a cup tie.

if you clinch shite beforehand, you don't have to give a frick how you do in the last match (or three)
