Is it safe to say this will be the most talented or promising team we’ve ever had. I don’t think we’ve ever had this amount of young talent. Every position has 18-21 yr old kids solidifying their spot on this team.

We say this about the next World Cup at the end of every World Cup.

Remember how hyped we were about Mix taking over in the midfield around this time four year ago?

I'll wait and see what happens over the next four years. The 02 team was pretty talented.

I don’t really remember this board back then. But I don’t think we had many young studs playing at a high level like this.

I'll grant you Pulisic and McKennie, but after that, a lot fo the young guys we showed off in these recent friendlies are either not playing for their club (Weah at PSG), still on the U23 squads (Robinson, Sargent) or in MLS (Adams).

ETA: The thing is you never know about your youth prospects. I mean, we called in Julian Green for Brazil because we were so sure that he would have large role in four years for both club and country... wasn't the case.

Exactly. We just don't know, and I sure wouldn't say it's a "safe bet".

I mean Green played close to 30 matches in the 2.Bundesliga last year.

That is a major step above anything all the players you mentioned are doing at the moment aside from Pulisic/McKennie

It's too early to have any reasonable full roster for 2022, but I would be shocked if we didn't have Yedlin, McKinnie, Pulisic, Miazga, Steffen, Adams, Brooks, Wood, Acosta, and Nagbe on the team. That's 10 guys, all of whom are at worst, reasonably talented. The rest of the team is too far out to call at this point.

And the best part is the talent is spaced out. Right back, center mid, central defense, goalkeeper, defensive mid, and inverted winger.

Brooks is never healthy, has just as good of a chance of being Onyewu 2.0.

Acosta needs a change of scenery ASAP. I think he has plateaued and is in danger of being passed over by other guys.

Just can't get excited about Wood.

I love Nagbe, but he'll be 31. We'll see.

I think that kind of goes along with his point.

We thought Green might be a star. Didn't make it at Bayern or Stuttgart. Is in the 2nd division, and is still playing at a higher level than most of our latest roster.

The team needs the veteran presence of Freddy Adu.

That is true, but Keaton Parks has played on the first team and has great reviews. Shaq moore got a few minutes in La Liga, Robinson and Vickers started in the championship. They may not all pan out, but that's a lot to get excited for.

Shaq played a ton more minutes than Parks this year and Shaq didn't play after January 7.

I don't disagree with you. The difference between the US being a dark horse and an also-ran will be whether those guys are starters with important roles or if they will be back-ups.

As for the younger guys, I think the key is to have as many guys as possible in positions to succeed. It's kind of like the draft pick strategy in the NFL or the NBA, that no one really knows what they're doing, so it's key to have as many good draft picks as possible to get it right.

I think we have as many guys in positions to succeed as we ever have. However, our 2010-12 cohort was up there and it just didn't have the late 90s hit rate.

That's all I'm saying. We've had a lot of guys come through with potential, just never the quantity of players today.

He was at Bayern at the time and now he is playing a division below. I don't think anyone back then expected Green to be a Bayern mainstay, but we sure as shite thought he would be in a top flight league somewhere.
