re: 2014 CL Final- The Mother of all Derbies on Fox with Two Douchebags

I thoroughly enjoyed that game. I feel Atletico lost it with the Costa move. Was that planned? It wasted a sub so early, and Atletico lost their legs around the 75th minute, when another attacking sub would have done wonders for them. They defended brilliantly, and if they can keep Koke and Simeone next year, and use the Costa money wisely, I could see them competing at a high level again. Absolutely fantastic team. I can't help but feel that the early sub cost them dearly.

It may or may not have made the difference but either way it was an incredibly stupid move that served zero purpose if it was done on purpose.
I still can't believe someone would sprint off the field in a CL final.

The last 20 or so minutes Atletico had no choice but to defend all out. By the 90th you could see their legs give out. One more sub would have given them more legs.

Starting Costa made no sense when they left Turan on the bench all game. He shouldn't have started either way in my opinion.

Di Maria MOM for me.
Really disappointed for Atletico. So close, again!

Ronaldo did not have a great game, but he was huge the entire UCL run. This goal run at the end is kind of pathetic, but sort of awesome.
He works hard as hell to score goals, and it keeps him scoring goals even when he's playing like shite.
Wrt everything else,

Modric, Isco. Very important.
MOTM, DíMaría, of course.
I´m less sympathetic for Atleti after having watched the match a second time.

di Maria was really good. Put most of Atletico's backline on a yellow card. Pretty much everyone else outside of Casillas was solid enough (the attackers when they actually touched the ball)
...and Casillas made one mistake that he has more than made up for throughout the CL
Atletico were shitheads, but they always are. I respect them for that

Yeah, Ronaldo's off the ball movement is crazy good. He just did not really have many opportunities for him to do much. Play was not flowing through him. I feel like part of Simeone's game plan was not to get beat by CR7. They swarmed him anytime he sniffed the ball.
I am just glad Modric there to be the ultimate stabilizing force.

They did the same to Hazard against us, though that is a much more obvious move because there is no one else on our team that would scare anyone.
I just want him, or someone like, at Chelsea.

I have Di Maria has MotM as well. He set up at least 2 yellow cards with his play, and that put Atletico in a tough spot defensively.
I haven't read the rest of the thread, but I think that Simeone's decision to start and sub out Costa was so dumb. It had one of two purposes: either to motivate his team and get them fired up to see a star battle through injury or to mindfrick Real Madrid.
I think it's silly, either way. They could have used that third sub in the 80th or the 103rd minute.

you are correct, sir.

Turan wasn't included as a sub, either. I guess he just wore the uniform to feel like part of the team. He was ruled out because of an injury of some sort (hip?).

I'm not criticizing them at all. They did what they should have done. Real never really looked like breaking them down. Got to eat at them so much to concede from a set piece like that.

Watching for the third time (people had me distracted for both previous viewings).
Ancelotti pops something, probably Maalox or a sedative, after Bale gets his header.

Yeah, I couldn't figure it out, either. I was wondering if it was something like Tums. Another moment that could make a nice GIF.

Oh, and CRon is still a monumental douchebag. Monumental.

Iker seriously d bagged the trophy presentation as well.
It would be expected in Spain that he include Diego López somehow in the raising of the trophy.
Really bad form.

I saw that the first time. I think it was gum because he was chewing gum all day. One of the commentators even mentioned the gum at one point.
The scene was preposterous:
Bale scores game winner
Everyone freaks out
Carlo wants gum
wtf

They are obviously tablets of some form, it´s a tubular vessel or package in his hand.
