Was it here or another board where the consensus opinion on Falcao to Monaco was that it was a brief stop to work out transfer complications with third owner and save a bit of face on his way to Real?

Not sure anyone expected it after only a few weeks though.

Looks like Osvaldo may finally agree to terms with Southampton. The clubs have long ago agreed on a fee of €20m which will be a bargain for Southampton if the calmer surroundings help soothe Osvaldo's fragile emotions.

Rumor seems to be that Roma may look to Adrian who I like ok but is really a step down in my mind from Osvaldo in almost every facet. I'd not rule out Sabatini looking to South America though. Destro is still recovering from the worrisome knee injury so even if he's pegged as the number one guy going forward we certainly need someone else.

Sucks that Osvaldo held up Roma's market by holding out 2 months to try to force Roma to sell him to Inter.

Southampton must have an owner willing to splash some cash?

Their offer for Osvaldo was considerably higher in terms of salary than any others from what I was understanding.

I think all the other offers (aside from Wolfsburg, for who Osvaldo seemingly had no interest whatsoever) were ones heavily weighted with performance bonuses both for transfer fee and salary.

Roma (and probably Osvaldo) knew they needed the money on the table considering what a headcase he is.

It may turn out to be an excellent piece of business for Southampton as Osvaldo's talent is unquestionable.

However, they may also have to deal with him scoring a few goals and making googly eyes at bigger clubs before even the honeymoon is over.

I wouldn't be shocked to see him trying to worm his way to Inter as quickly as Falcao did to Real.

I'm just surprised someone else didn't take a chance on him. 20m euro isn't an absurd amount of money nowadays.

Kinda pissed Rodgers didn't go for him.

Yeah, Liverpool always seemed like they could have been a possibility. Even more than Tottenham where he would fill a need but Baldini may likely have been sick of dealing with his antics.

I'm probably in the minority of Roma fans who still wanted him to stay even into this summer mainly because--as you suggest -- there's a lot of players not as talented as Osvaldo changing hands at much higher prices.

Also, for as immature as he was and his penchant for incredibly stupid stuff that turned some fans violently against him (like going on vacation and posting facebook photos of him drinking beers with some hos in Vienna during the weekend he was suspended for the Lazio derby!!), it still seemed all his teammates liked him and there was certainly something fetching about his persona as the mad maverick gunner.

I really wanted him. Some rumors that he wanted to be at Spurs, and I have no confidence in Defoe (or Ade) anymore. Defoe was bad today. Missed an easy chance, and then was caught by three defenders when he beat them all on a perfect through ball. If a small guy loses his speed, it's over.

Everton released a statement this morning

"Everton can confirm that it has received bids from Manchester United for two players. Those bids were immediately rejected out of hand as derisory and insulting.

The Club did not make public these details as it was vital Roberto Martinez’s preparations for the opening game of the Premier League season were not disrupted in anyway
