What do Trump fans think of his new welfare program for agri-business?

Massive tax increase through tariffs, then redistributes the money to those he feels were hurt by the actions. The real victim is the American consumer who will pay for for imported goods. Nothing capitalist, free market about either of those actions.

Your socialist emperor'

"Now, however, there is a Republican president who can teach Ocasio-Cortez a thing or two about the essence of socialism, which is 10-thumbed government picking winners and losers and advancing the politicization of everything."

ETA: Dang! 46 downs to 1 up vote...definitely a personal best

I don't like it at all, but I believe Trump is using the tariffs as a short-term tool to get a long-term fix to trade problems.

Hopefully, it will work.

My understanding it's a temporary show of "we will outlast you" for his trade war. If foreign countries think sectors of our economy will turn upside down they'll have to think again and ask themselves could they do the same for longer period of time to their markets affected by a trade war.

Dont be surprised when the investigation goes back to 2003

I was kidding of course, I get where you're coming from but it's not like that old proverb is 100% true in every case, it's just a warning that sometimes temporary solutions become permanent. Whether that's the case here is unknown.

* do you not understand tariffs are taxes?
* did you not hear about $12,000,000,000 he wants to pay 'farmers'?

see, on the one hand, he increases taxes on consumers, then gives welfare payments to a very small people...which part don't you understand?

As I said, I do hope you're correct. I understand completely his strategy, but don't think taxing American consumers and giving subsidies to select industries is a free market/capitalist solution. This is a typical socialist top down government planning strategy. He's basically saying that he has to use planned economy strategies to reach a free market economy.
