Yes, but this was his supposed death bed confession where Woodward said he knew about Iran Contra. He died in the hospital.

Woodward claimed in the book that he was the sole witness to a dramatic deathbed confession from former CIA Director William Casey. Casey, as he lay dying in Georgetown University hospital, jerked up in bed and confessed to Woodward that he knew about the Reagan-era Iran-Contra deal, Woodward claimed. “People close to Casey at the time said he couldn’t even speak, much less jerk his head up. They said details of Woodward’s account, such as the positioning of Casey’s hospital bed, did not even remotely match Woodward’s description. Casey’s daughter said the encounter never happened,” Tod Robberson, now an editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, wrote in a 2013 Dallas Morning News column “Kevin Shipp, who served in Casey’s security detail at the hospital, wrote in 2010 that there were security guards at Casey’s door 24/7, and nobody got past without their approval. Woodward tried to get in, but he was turned away, Shipp stated. Woodward disputes the 24/7 claim,” Robberson noted.

The CIA's internal report found that Casey "had forty-three meetings or phone calls with Woodward, including a number of meetings at Casey's home with no one else present" during the period Woodward was researching his book.
Something his colleagues universally recognized.
Since you think so much of Woodward, let's clearly define "terrible shape" though.
Casey was in such mental and physical decline after his Dec'87 syncope/likely CVA/brain surgery that he was dysphasic nearly to the point of functional aphasia -- meaning he attempted to speak but what he said was nearly indiscernible.
When he was asked to resign in Jan'87 (He died in May'87), he was incapable of even cogently signing his own resignation letter. His wife had to sign it for him.
That is the Bill Casey whom Woodward claims to have extracted factual detailed and reliable information from.
You feel good about that?

Doesn’t he release them 25 years later? It says at least in “the Agenda” and all the presidents men” in the back I believe. Didn’t he make a deal to release deep throats name at a certain time. Also, Woodward has written man books just like it.

I imagine with the times we are in Woodward was approached by someone(see "the smoking man") with a idea, a list of contacts a the promise of a fat book deal and all the praise and glory he could handle. He was a easy mark and jumped right in with both feet.
For the good of the country of course was most likely in the original pitch to him.

Bob Woodward, unable to resist the temptation to try again and again to be at the forefront of investigative journalism, is being steadily exposed as a chronically dishonest myth-maker.

quote:you are being kind to this SOB by calling it fantasyland....woodward should never be believed on anything...i was a young, newly married, adult during the watergate years and followed it closely ...bernstein and woodward have always been a couple of "shekel chasers" and the media was no different then, than now, just better at lying....they were being set up to be "heroic jouralists" in order to get to nixon in order to install the damned idiot peanut farmer....nixon was becoming a threat to the CIA due to asking too many questions about the strategy in vietnam...the american public trusted the media, for the most part, back then un like now....this will end with different results than watergate
