If he can't hit Army/Navy standards, I'd say both. If that's a problem, make him a civilian.

Okay so let me ask you this. The surgeon at Walter Reed should be held to the same standard as a line grunt?
You are sounding like that one officer talking about changing the AF PT standards to each job...
frick that we have enough fat bodies. Not as many as the Army though.

We can strike a balance.

Nope, that isn't what I'm asking for. What are the Army's standards for a typically aged LtCol? Not that bad, I'm sure. I know the Navy's are embarrassing.

What if he becomes a battalion surgeon?

Are we talking about current standards? If so, no, and I think that's perfectly reasonable.

You know that is not true.

In general discussion. I agree with GT23. When Mabus and Ash Carter go away this entire social engineering experiment also goes away-quietly...

Follow the pipeline bro. If I sign a candidate to an HPSP scholarhip (Health Professions Scholarship Program), they pass medical school and their residency and their boards and then "fails" their APFT, should I separate them?
Trust me, I have seen individuals attempt to do this.

The AF test is dumb how if you fail the waist you fail everything.
I'm pretty sure in the army you can fail the waste and do well on everything else and still be good.

Nobody cares about doctors. We're talking about the real military here.

Maybe not, but I don't really need to for my point.

That's my point. I don't expect surgeons to be in BRC shape, but I also don't think we should have a bunch of fatties, either.
*Caveat that my experience is with the Navy, and they're just fat in general.

yes
