It’s been balkanized. There’s no going back.

We need republicans in California , NY and other far left states to leave for red and purple states . Most democrats are not leaving red states for blue states because they don’t have a political say. Deep down they know dark blue states are not a good place to live . It would be great if republicans moved to republican states and democrats move to democrat states . We would get what we want and split the country up .

Why would people moving freely about the country lead to all this drama you describe?
Generally its about money.

It’s a damn shame what the current political climate has come to. 15-20 years ago, the Democrats and Republicans were much closer to the center and people were more tolerant of others with opposing political views. Now, thanks to echo-chambers and radicalization on social media platforms, sharing your political opinions can get you ostracized.

Um, this already exists. Massachusetts has a perfect example. About 30 years ago they rigged the system so no congress position would ever be republican again. The 6th and 3rd were the last and for the first time in over 60 years they had 2. by 96 the machine ended it all.
Definitely doesn’t help that MA has two of the most elitist academic institutions in the entire world and 80% of its state population lives in very close proximity to them.
