This is more than likely as it fits their character. Invent a lie, repeat the lie through other legacy media, then ignore any truth that contradicts said lie. Wash, rinse, repeat.

I watched an old tired journalist try gotcha questions and get her complete total lack of professionalism revealed. What journalist would walk into that interview never having and read the multiple factual documents, like the IG report?
