Government shutdowns in the modern era:

- 1995 (Republican Congress)
- 1996 (Republican Congress)
- 2013 (Republican Congress)
- 2018 (Republican Congress)

Not like it’s a pattern or anything.

There is nothing moral about the Republican position here.

The position of putting Americans first over illegals is immoral?

Can you expand on this a little more or are you just parroting what you heard on CNN?

I wish the federal government would shut down more.

"Democrats are unhappy with American voters, so they want to import new ones."

Simple as that.

Yes, posted in another thread. Will repost in applicable threads

Wtf are you talking about? If blacks and Mexicans all of a sudden started to vote republican the Dems would do everything they could to brand them as evil human beings.

Well they already have a name for blacks that step off the Democrat plantation. They call them Uncle Toms.

So you are saying that when the R's are in power the Democrats try and obstruct and shut down the government? I agree

I'm not condoning what the Dems are doing but let's not pretend the Rs aren't playing politics too.

There was no reason for the Rs to block McCaskill trying to make sure all our servicemen are paid. They have to keep serving, isn't this a bipartisan issue? Seems like that was a no brainier easy way to agree on something we all agree on and simply get it done, why did the Rs have to block it?

Because it's not needed just yet??? I'm not sure.

It's probably because, as you pointed out, are indeed playing politics and want someone on their side to introduce the bill.

Here's where we all get mad at all of them and remind them to cut the bullshite and do their jobs.

I could see that. It also feels like something the Rs could use to apply pressure on the Ds to get a deal done. If they went ahead and got it done (which I think we all agree is the right and moral thing to do), it's one less piece the dems have to worry about in terms of backlash.

That's a lot of speculation, I don't know what they're thinking. I just don't understand why Mitch blocked it.

I didn't say they weren't.

I will say I didn't see the whole bill she was proposing to pass for them to get paid. Serious question was she trying to slip something in with it that the Republicans didn't agree with?

That Dems throw a tantrum when the Congress is Republican?

ETA: Didn’t see Gulf Coast Tiger’s post, expressing the same sentiment.

Didn't mean to single you out, speaking to the greater community, really. My bad.

Came here looking for the same answer, I genuinely don't know. As I understand it though, they weren't. I think it was exclusively to guarantee their pay through shutdowns. She referenced how it was a problem in 2013.

So here is a link to the military spending bill that is linked in the article in another thread.

All it says is that congress shouldn't get paid during a shutdown. It says nothing about military still getting paid.

So I don't know if she played with the wording to the press or what but that isn't what her bill she introduced says.

Are we talking about the same thing? I saw the 10 dems introduce that bill, which I think is a great idea (frick paying congress if they aren't working) but I think it's something different.

They're stuck between pandering to the progressive nutjobs and trying to win back modetate whites in the rust belt. They can't do the latter without pissing off the former, because the former is unhinged and will not accept any compromise.

So thd Dems have to choose illegal immigrants and hope the GOP caves so they can farm votes from the Hispanics. They aren't winning back Midwestern modetate whites without alienating their rabid base
