We import lots of talent form overseas every year to fill the need.
Why can’t we admit more students to Med schools?
Is it because of state regulations? If so, that’s insane!

Because a global pandemic isn’t a regular thing

We don't.

We have slightly more lawyers than doctors...so you know we have tons of doctors.

It’s about money. The same reason doctors throw up so many road blocks about NPs and PAs.

It has nothing to do with global pandemic. Shortage has been going on for years.

the number of residents is controlled by congress.

they do what ama says.

in holland they have twice the mds per capita as usa.
dutch mds make half what us doctors make.

If not then why do we have like 50% of residents who are foreign graduates that come here and practice in the US?

Why aren't you a doctor, if you aren't? There is a limited pool of people that have an interest in medicine to begin with. Of those with an interest there is only a certain percentage with the intelligence, aptitude, and willingness to invest the time needed to become a doctor.

That is not the issue
Wrong metric

Baseline health and wellness is on the individual. You are currently seeing a culling of the frail and unhealthy (both known and unknown)

There are industries built upon making people sick and apathetic. We are reaping what we have sewed...

No amount of doctors to administer sick care or ventilatory support can fix that problem (and that is where we are). Individuals should use this down time to focus on moving, eating, and sleeping better

You mean more Americans, and not Asians and Arabs?

All for it. Too many Foreigners, of every occupation, in the US

You don't have a shortage of doctors.

You have a shortage of internists and general practitioners.

Way too many specialists.

Some leave and go to other countries.

There also used to be a lot of nurses leaving for places like some of the richer middle eastern countries because of higher pay which is also tax free if you stay the required length of time. Some of the countries also furnish them a place to live free of charge.

My response remains the same
Wrong metric/wrong issue

We could have AI practictioners triaging these folks in 1 to 1 ratio. If you get to a point where you need ventilatory support in this setting, you are likely going to die anyway (death is postponed). The battle needs to be fought well in advance (heathy population in general). Again that is on the individual...

Because it cost less to fund the stimulus package then it does to get your undergrad and then go to medical school.
