It used to be you needed more kids to help on the farm...that was the major problem in rural China which created massive over-population is families were having 15 children to basically create a workforce.
3rd world countries always see children as helping hands instead of a financial burden...because they live cheaply and the extra kids can contribute more than they take away in their minds.
