Edwards did better in Republican areas than expected. He won Orleans and Jefferson and got close to 40% out of St.Tammany as well as Terrebonne. You get that along with EBR and Caddo and all you need is about 35 -40% in the rest of the state.

People sitting at home were not the problem and neither were pissed off Abraham voters in N.LA. Edwards was acceptable enough to a lot of Republicans.
Plus Abraham supporters were not all that passionate for their candidate. Originally Abraham had to be begged into the race.

This... Orleans, Jefferson, EBR and Caddo and that's all she wrote.

1. Republicans eat their own and hold grudges. Many northern Louisiana conservatives were offended by Rispone running attack adds about primary rival Ralph Abraham and boycotted the runoff out of spite.
2. While JBE had upset a lot of money interests in the state, he wasn’t offensive to that many actual people.
3. Rispone hired out of state campaign managers who did not understand Louisiana’s landscape AT ALL and routinely shunned individuals who were telling them they were f$&king up.
4. Rispone ran entirely on federal issues and on being endorsed by Trump. He did not utilize the strengths of his entrepreneurial story or any of the ideas in his actual platform. They even had a ridiculous ad they put out themselves that made him sound like a racist.
5. Rampant voter fraud, especially in Orleans Parish added the largest black vote turnout in a gubernatorial election ever. The Monday after the election, state government computers were hit with a massive ransomware attack that completely shut down state offices and the head IT guy for the state’s house mysteriously caught fire.

About two months before the general election in 2019 Rispone found himself trailing Congressman Ralph Abraham for the runoff against J.B Edwards.
So Rispone went on a scorched earth campaign of lies slandering Abraham, including making up a statistic that Abraham voted with Nancy Pelosi more than 80% of the time. He also claimed that Abraham missed voting most of the time and that Abraham didn't keep his campaign promise to not accept his congressional salary but give his salary to charity instead.
Even when Abraham rebutted the lies by showing that all of the times he voted "with" Pelosi it was on personal privilege votes, such as a congressman wanting a vote to honor a local sports team for winning a championship or naming a post office after a local hero...that kind of vote, not a vote involving policy or national importance. On those important issue votes, Abraham voted opposite of how Pelosi voted 100% of the time.
The salary donation lie was even worse. Congressional rules don't allow a congressman to not take his salary. So Abraham accepted his salary and then donated 100% of it to various charities. He kept his campaign promise.
Rispone knew he was lying about Abraham but he was so desperate to get into the runoff, he kept lying about Abraham all the way up to election day.
He got into the runoff with Edwards but so many Abraham supporters refused to vote in the runoff election that it got Edwards elected.

Acadiana and SWLA believed the negative adds. Big reason why Abraham lost. Then Rispone got gamed by the Dem machine.

I argued forever with friends and family in SWLA that Abraham was the only chance to beat JBE. Lake Charles and Lafayette didn’t understand they needed all of North LA to beat NOLA and the Dem machine.

The day after Rispone started his TV ad campaign slandering Abraham I posted on this forum that Rispone just got Edwards reelected.
All of the Rispone supporters on this board who supported Rispone's decision to attack Abraham also helped get Edwards reelected.

Wasn’t that rispone lost. JBE identified his base and got them out
Posted on 9/4/23 at 7:45 pm to Tiger Roux
Abraham couldn’t handle those tiny jabs from Rispone. He wanted no part of JBE
Posted on 9/4/23 at 7:48 pm to bdavids09
Overconfidence. Poor man cried on election night.

That’s funny Abraham won Lafayette parish in the primary. Try again
Posted on 9/4/23 at 7:52 pm to LSURussian
At least you admit that thin-skinned crybaby Abraham voters got JBE re-elected.

This is exactly what Oklahoma is
Posted on 9/4/23 at 7:52 pm to bdavids09
His entire campaign was how hard he’ll suck off Trump and nothing else. Meanwhile Edwards campaigned on being right on abortion and guns.

All of Abraham’s supporters who stayed home help elect Abraham.
All those Republicans for Edwards help elect Edwards.
All those Republicans for Abraham who failed to support their man with dollars helped elect Edwards.
The fact was Abraham had no shot because he had little money. Rispone had money, his own, but he was a novice and no politician.
JBE was destined to win and the big money people knew it.

No shite. He still lost because Rispone went negative. We needed the whole rest of the state to beat NOLA and EBR.
Not sure what your argument is.
