This argument has been around since the minimum wage began.

“$2.15? Have you ever tried to support a family on $2.15/hr? My god!!”

Just change the number and recycle it. It’s always going to be a moving target because they don’t really care about the working poor.
If they cared, they'd be promoting policies or entities that get to the root of the problem, not try to address the symptom. Why are people only able to work minimum wage jobs? Do they not have training or education? Do they not have the initiative to do something different? What is it that needs to be addressed?

They don't have these discussions because they think the solution to everything is more "free" money; just throw enough money at a problem and it goes away. It's ridiculous.

You vote for representatives under the assumption they will represent your interests, correct?
Nope. Not at all. Not even a little bit.

Why would a government official have a better in interest in my personal condition than myself?

Hell... for 11 years my local representative was Sheila Jackson Lee.

You probably know my post history well enough to know that my "representative" has almost nothing in common with my best interest or beliefs. My "representative" was (and still is) a buffoon that actively worked AGAINST my best interests.

But that was her job. She won the election.

Once again... it's worth repeating. It is not the purpose of government to take care of personal responsibilities. Government's purpose is to work for public goods.
