It's certainly possible that the societal cost of not funding it is greater than funding it
Seems like it should be a lot clearer than “well maybe it is … it’s possible” for discussing whether a multi decade long multiple billion dollars per year government program is worth it.

Leftists do not vote to improve the world, because even when evidence shows the world isn't improving they still do the same thing.
Lefties vote to feel good about themselves and they do not care how many people are destroyed in the process. Their feelings are #1, above life, above parents, above children.
