Actually, suicide should really be in quotes.

No. The word suicide should be underlined.

Whisenant felt his marriage was over. He was depressed. He left home and drove to the beach. Basically texted his wife a suicide note from there. His wife contacted the police and went to search for him herself.

At the scene, he took his shoes and socks off. Put his wallet and iphone in one of the shoes. Then waded into the ocean and shot himself in the head. Ballistics were compatible with a gun he normally kept locked in a safe at his house. The gun apparently fell in the ocean and was lost.

His body was found floating in the surf the following morning.

How dare you ruin this perfectly good conspiracy theory with facts.

My wedding ring was found in chest deep surf by a guy with a waterproof metal detector. It took him less than five mins.

The gun wasn’t lost. Heavy items like guns don’t float away. Super easy to find weeks later unless there is a legit hurricane.

I don’t particularly by into this conspiracy, but I got a call from Waco PD year’s (10+) later after a gun of mine was found after someone stole it and tossed it into the Brazos River when I was at Baylor in 1995.

River =\= ocean but the point remains that the gun could have potentially still be close enough to be found.

How could it possibly have been ruled a suicide without a gun at the scene?

It actually is possible and it's been tried more than once. Balloon suicide

quote:

He tied a gun to a string, attached it to the weather balloon, and once the shot was fired, the balloon carried the weapon away from the scene.

"Although the theory seemed far-fetched, it was plausible," a police report states.

A blood stain on Abrahamson's sweatshirt appeared to support the claim: A long thin line of blood had traveled up — "indicating that something was in the blood and dragged across to the top of the shirt," police note.

Right.
and years from now, they may well locate this one.

I'm not in any way saying it is impossible to find a gun under such circumstances. I'm not even that it is improbable. I am simply saying it is possible, considering how far Whisenant could have walked out into the ocean on that coastline, they'd have not found the gun after the shooting. It is a lot of ground to cover.

That's in contradiction to the guy earlier claiming it would be impossible not to find that gun after a day or more covered with sand in the currents.

...I suppose he left a suicide note detailing the type of gun he kept locked in a safe at his house, eh? Or did the missing gun catch an uber home after the suicide so the ballistics could be matched up?

Idiot.

Hey, we had a perfectly good conspiracy story going here and you had to ruin it.

Boatshoes , you should probably cease doing that in this thread. It is not working well.

The gun was registered.

I presume you're referring to a projectile match? It appears, there was no projectile recovered. Caliber and wound was compatible with the missing gun, at least to the satisfaction of both Feds and local investigators.

I'll happily start a GoFundMe to help with your tinfoil budget, though.
Aside from that, I'm not sure what else I can do for you.

Gunpowder residue on one of the victims hands would be a clear indicator of a self inflicted GSW.

I highly suspect this forensic procedure was utilized in the death investigation.
