This.

The thing is, everybody outside of a swing state should be voting their conscious. I live in Louisiana which I know is going to go red every time there's an election which frees me up to vote the way I really want, which would be libertarian party. If everybody did this in solid red or blue States then a third party would gain traction without upsetting an election up until the point where they had such a Groundswell in each individual state that they could actually flip the state over to a third party and at that point we would have a three-party system.

Voting for a third party in no way, shape or form, ensures a win for the enemy party unless you're in a highly contested District or state

Trump is the third party

with Trump and Bernie we have seen the phenomenon of the ability, or near ability in Bernie's case, of third parties to hi-jack either of the 2 mainline parties.

Third party is a benefit to the party running a close second, to split votes.
See Ross Perot.

Maybe.

Or 3 parties may end up turning the country into a single ruling party.

When will a new US mainline airline or car company or bank or brewery arise?

You will never get anything but nibbling around the edges

Well half the democrats are straight communists now a days. I can see maybe some blue dogs pulling off and starting a tax and spend party.

Louisiana runoff system is far superior to every type of election system in the United States but unfortunately Louisiana is the only government at any level that uses it.

Depends on its success. Some of it will be self-sustaining though.

The American electoral system is designed to exclude any view or opinion that is outside the acceptable boundaries of American political orthodoxy, which nullifies the existence of third parties. And the establishment’s lapdogs in the media would effectively censor and blackout any third party that gained traction with the voting public.
