When discussing gun control don't forget to talk about gender

California's Newsom says gender must be a part of national gun debate
quote:
"These shootings overwhelmingly — almost exclusively — are males, boys, men. I do think that is missing in the national conversation," Newsom said
But I thought gender was fluid? I wonder how many snowflakes will get triggered by the use of "males, boys, men"?
quote:
"I think that goes deep to the issue of how we raise our boys to be men, goes deeply to values that we tend to hold dear — power, dominance, aggression, over empathy, care and collaboration."
So Gav, you want to make them more feminine and pussified? Go for it....in Cali only and let us know how that works out.

Assuming gender. Thought that was a no no?

Patheos link - 26/27 mass shooters were fatherless
I posted this in the gamer thread but this is a better place for it. Yes they are males. And almost all grew up without their biological father, or any father, in their lives. Especially as children.

IMO there's a correlation BUT it also proves that only a very, very small number of guys that grow up without a father becomes a psycho and go on a killing spree.

There is no discussion as far as I'm concerned.
SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED!!! PERIOD!!
The founding fathers wrote that because they knew these idiots would come around and try to take our protection.

This stuff is ridiculous. I’m in favor of certain forks of gun regulation, but based on gender?????? Most violent crimes are committed by men, maybe we should just all become women?

I’m trying to have a real conversation and not a name calling match was usually happens on this site…
Why is it that on this amendment there are so many that are so strong about following it to the exact letter? There have been several amendments that over the years meanings have been adapted and re-thought based on the times we live in.
The 14th amendment was reinterpreted just a few years ago. Also over the years what defines “cool and unusual punishment“ has changed. Thanks to Miranda v Arizona your rights are read to you, which wasn’t the original intent of the 5th amendment.
What I’m saying is it’s possible to be in favor of the Second Amendment, and still be in favor of more or better regulations of firearms.

I’m not sure that is true, heck 1/2 the founding fathers weren’t even in favor of the Bill of Rights, including James Madison who wrote them

Well, why do you think these males lashed out and could not control all that aggression?
Because we are raising them like women. Or not raising them at all.
No fathers, no recess, no football, zero tolerance for fighting, no patriotism, the list goes on and on.
The things that make males “masculine” have been labeled “toxic” by the education community. This is the product. Chaos. Add that to the fact that they are all fatherless, with no male guides in life, and this is what you get. Twisted individuals who can’t process their anger and haven’t been set straight.

MORE regulation?? What would you like to see added? Be specific.
Thanks.

I’m going to have a hard time being super specific because I’m not expert on the subject.
It seems like we need better mental health screenings on these people. Maybe offer free gun safety courses so people get an appreciation for the power of a weapon.
It seems like passing one background check is very light. Maybe do it like a drivers license that you have to get renewed once in awhile or a car registration.

See what I’m saying is many amendments and parts of the constitution have already been altered or reinterpreted, why is this one the one that will ruin everything?
Posted on 8/6/19 at 6:53 am to Wtodd
Idiot democrats just cant make up their minds.

quote:Maybe we’ve looked at the way other amendments have been altered or reinterpreted and don’t like what we see. Look at the 4th amendment for example. It doesn’t even have to be limited to amendments. Pretty much all major national policies or government programs have only continued to grow or move further to the left.

Dept. Of Education
Social Security
Welfare in all forms
The war on drugs
These are nearly all abject failures. Why should we expect you to get this one right?

Thanks for the answer!
How would that be done seeing that "These people" are only identified after the shooting?
Not crazy people already have a working knowledge of guns?
Would those safety courses be mandatory for all people?
Violent and insane people..by definition..have no interest in acting safely.
Criminals don't care about legalities and don't worry about things like background checks.
Here's something to consider. There is nothing that can be done about an insane and violent person from spontaneously striking out.

How would you like to see the 2nd amended or "reinterpreted"?

quote:this one has already been altered and reinterpreted, too. Something having been altered doesn't mean it's justified or okay. You are clearly incredibly naive and just not ready to handle this conversation.

See things like this make your points lose credibility man. Why do some people thing the only way to have a discussion is to trash people? It’s childish you’re better than that

Sure I don’t totally disagree with that. But if registrations, safety courses, certifications were out there and then some people refused to do it, it could help the police know who the trustworthy gun owners are out there. Plus it may not stop crazy people from shooting people, but it could help all gun owners have a better knowledge and respect for their firearms, and maybe encourage more good people to have them, which is the point right?
