We didn't have heat index or real feel when I was growing up but we would eat breakfast, go play baseball (I don't remember carrying water jug or something) come in for lunch and go out and play baseball til supper. Not always baseball but something outside. It was just as hot then as now. I'm old and my wife and I went to the garden. I fooled with some trail cameras and it was hot. Really hot. But guess what, I'm sitting here typing on a computer. People are soft but that's not the point of the article, I know. But climate change is always and no different now than years and years ago.

Two issues for me. One the weather prediction this year has been horrible in North La. Worse I've seen in my lifetime. Its always predicted for the worse.
Second. There isn't any data from the weather bureau that I trust. When you dig into the facts, the temperature can't even be trusted. The people they have that calibrate and adjust the thermometers are told to go to the high side. There was a time when either Coushatta or Natchitous (sp) was always 5-6 degrees higher than everyone else. I asked a local weatherman about it and he said it was calibrated incorrectly and they had complained about it, but it wasn't getting fixed.
If we had only sent all our money to Al Gore in the 90s we would be in great shape now.

Not for your area necessarily, but lots of sensors are placed where they aren't supposed to be like over asphalt, which will increase the temp a lot.
