What’s up with these close gubernatorial races in Kentucky and Mississippi?

Trump approval in these states is very high according to recent polls, but these polls also show governor races tomorrow that are pretty close.
The dem in Kentucky, beshear, is actually leading in a few polls.
Why is this happening? Why are so many maga soldiers crossing over to vote for Jim hood in MS and Andy Beshear in KY?

In Mississippi its because the GOP nominee hurt some people's feelings. He's a pretentious prick and to some people that's the worse thing you can be.
I don't think it will be an issue. What to watch in Mississippi is if the 420 candidate siphons off enough joke votes and protest votes to send it to the House of Representatives.

His Dem opponent Jim Hood is probably one of the few Blue Dog Democrats left in America. He has a commercial with him shooting a gun and with his hunting dog Buck. He is trying to come off as "I'm one of you" to moderate voters.
Also Reeves was terrible as Lt. Gov with Public Education refusing teacher pay raises year in and year out and cutting funding to MAEP. He also isn't a friend to rural hospitals.
I think Tate ends up winning, but there couldn't have been a worse candidate that the Republicans could have chosen.

Yes and no.
Statewide elections have a hell of a lot of strings attached to them. You can't win those without owing special interests favors and you have to ask yourself what kind of special interests does Jim Hood owe favors to? And can you tolerate those kind of favors to get rid of Tate?
Everything I've seen on Jim Hood says he's practically a clone of JBE here in Louisiana and that's high spending and shelling out legacy lawsuits to ambulance chasers looking to make a quick buck to the detriment of the state economy and job growth.

Phil Bryant should've done everything he could to persuade Tate to not run and to find an alternative to the medicaid and high tax RINOs in Waller and Foster.
That he didn't do that is a failure of leadership from him.

Muh teachers unions in Kentucky is the reason. Last year there was a bunch of uproar because Bevin didn't want to raise taxes to meet the teachers unions demands.
