Nobody wanted to talk about the post office’s inadequacies until mail-in ballots were the new talking point.
Don’t forget that Amazon is one of the few things keeping USPS’ cash flow rolling.

Hampering the post office hurts some Businesses as it's the cheapest option they have to deliver mail. It also serves as a major inconvenience to their customers.

Uh - there is no economically viable reason for a USPS to continue to exist as is - perhaps vestiges of it to manage local addresses, which can be done at a fraction of current cost and perhaps even fully funded by a tax on shipping. With virtually all First Class mail being easily replaceable by paperless/online/email options, all that is left is parcels. And if you don't think UPS (cost) or Fedex (Speed) aren't 1000x better than the USPS for anything except First Class mail (and again, see above, snail mail is as obsolete as buggy whips), then I don't know what else to tell you.

My “free” 2 day shopping is 4 days if using sure post...it literally sits at the po for two days.

The issue is that not all products are sold on Amazon or eBay.

My issue is that this has severely harmed the mail orders I get from merchants.
No it hasn't.

What's going on with the post office is Trump appointed a businessman as Postmaster General to get the USPS solvent. Meanwhile, the postal union wants to continue bilking anything it can. Efficiency be damned, Business measures be damned.

So the union has planted these crap stories about Trump "kneecapping" the USPS to undermine mail-in voting. To assess vercity of that bullshite claim, one simply need examine how many pieces of mail one receives DAILY. Then consider mail-in ballots would be ONE PIECE OF MAIL! Claims the USPS should need 1¢ extra to handle 1 just extra piece of mail per customer are effing absurd!

I mailed 2 packages on Friday via a "send a package" store here - support local merchants, etc. One went FedEx and was received the next day, 2 states away.

The other was sent USPS Priority and according to the tracking number, a mailing label has been created. Period. I'm NEVER using USPS again.

I worked 34 years in the private world in retail route sales. I’ve been at the PO for 6 years. I can estimate that 30-40% of them could not make it in private industry. They would be fired within two weeks for various reasons. Another 30-40% would be let go within a year. Only because they are a little smarter. Not much, just a little. As a former manager, the management team is no better. I regretfully have to say the PO is a combination day care center and veteran care facility. Not the “ hero” veterans. The ones who fight over handicapped parking spaces. They all have placards. And I listen to them plot how to get another “10 pahcent” on their disability In The break rooms. The PO is overwhelmingly sensitive to any diversity or minority issue you can think of. Cripplingly so. I cannot say I’ve seen ANYONE fired no matter what. Well, maybe one who insisted he be fired. Long story. Another “hero”.
All that being said, there is a lot of stuff being said wrong here. From funding to service realities to history. I would ask that many of you investigate the actual responsibilities and operating logistics. If you do not live in an urban area, privatizing the PO will not result in what you think it will. Clearly I agree there are problems. But if you believe a nation wide service that serves EVERY address will be done by any private company....clearly you don’t understand the difference between a profitable company and a government service. Take the time to look a map. With populations on it. There are no UPS’s or FedEx’s going to send a vehicle down a 40 mile road to deliver. Once. And once they’re in charge they will begin cutting that down. Many of you outside 30-40 minutes of large urban centers will find yourselves in a few years of privatization being given a “pickup” place closer to their distribution centers. Yep, the PO has problems. Seen ‘em. Many of you have no5 thought this through. Just like we need to restore our manufacturing base, we need to maintain a communication network. Just for thought.....
