What we are accepting but not recognizing is that Congress doesn’t want to do its job

The Legislative Branch has, over time, ceded it authority to the Executive and Judicial branches because Congress doesn’t want to make controversial decisions.

Why are we operating mainly off executive orders for the last 10 years?

Why is SCOTUS the last word on matters of national importance? Why won’t the GOP Congress reign in the 9th Circuit and others?

Congress is pointing at others while not doing its job.

The country is way to divided to make any changes of any kind to the Constitution.

Abortion is a great example. Of Congress did its job and passed a Constitutional Amendment for abortion, then crap like what we're seeing today wouldn't be happening.

Make no mistake, abortion is the main reason the libs are trying to ruin Kavanaugh's good name. If there was an Abortion Amendment, then it wouldn't matter who was on the Court.

That's the way it's supposed to work.

When you realize they are all the same, then you will be, as they say, woke. They argue for different things, but they all want the same thing, power and your money to spend. They don’t want to spend it on the same things, but gosh darn it, they want to spend it. It is a big circus. And Americans will continue to enjoy the bread and circuses and do nothing. They keep you occupied hating each other and not awakening to what is really going on.

Couldn’t agree more.

People who complain about most SCOTUS decisions are fools.

Congress could change almost every single one of the Court’s “controversial” decisions.......by simply doing its job.

The Court merely advises and clarifies what the law IS. Congress is more than free to change said law. In fact, it is EXCLUSIVELY the power of the Congress to enact and amend the law.

However, then lawmakers wouldn’t be able to campaign for their entire career by bitching about court precedent.

Misnomer. Under Senate rules (filibuster), there are huge limitations as to what Congress actually can and can't do.

That is where I thank goodness everyday that Obama squandered his filibuster-proof majority so badly.

Awful excuse. The Senate makes those rules, and has no qualms about throwing them out the window when it so pleases the majority. The Senate hides behind its perception as a deliberative and “higher” chamber, but it hasn’t earned that designation in decades. They could easily be productive and enact more legislation. They choose not to because it’s a comfy gig and they get to do nothing for 6 years at a time.

With the 17th amendment, the Senate is essentially a smaller version of the House with more important duties.

Regardless, without the filibuster, the 2008-12 years would have seen us lurch miles to the left.

Didn’t they have a supermajority for some, if not all, of that time? I’m not sure the filibuster did much of anything

ETA: They only had it until the 2010 midterms. The ACA was passed with a filibuster proof majority IIRC
