Bashear is a great candidate in a deep red state running against a poor candidate. However, healthcare and education are two issues that inspired the victory.

Honestly I dont think so, but that's also not really the point I was making. US voter turnout just sucks in general.

I would not say that this was an issue based campaign. It was more pro-Bevin/Trump and/or anti-Bevin. Beshear mostly ran on three things: his name (Dad was governor), his record of suing the Bevin administration on the national topic de jour, and having teachers' backs (not specific edu policies, more so "I won't raid your pensions").

The real summary here is that Bevin went to war with the teachers over the last couple of years and royally pissed them off and it cost him the suburbs and Republican teachers. Republican destroyed the Dems down ballot.
