You asked for who a repressor is, so I gave you an example well-explained by the theory.

I agree with you, though. It's more sound as a macro-explanation for the same general reason that psychological interpretation of individual posts doesn't make sense. You can't confirm it and if someone denies it you're at an impasse. This goes for the therapy consulting room too, btw.

Yes, alas, I was trying to hard and forgot to edit thoroughly. Mea maxima culpa.

You might be right. I think Decatur had a really good point earlier in this thread. I don't think this guy was a repenter or a repressor. I think he preferred not to politicize this at all.

But the example is also well-explained by a completely contradictory reason.

A rapist will typically deny being a rapist. Looking at a denial in a vacuum and claiming it fits the above theory so it's an example of the man being an actual rapist would be sorta silly. So much so that the basic premise has made it into many a comedy sketch or movie.

Yeah, welcome to the problems of psychological theoretical interpretations. They're never definitive. Shrinks tend to find them useful when people make use of them to function better and be less miserable, but you can never prove they're right.

Correct. Scarier than that is the fact that soooooo many Americans refuse to accept this
and refuse to see what's right before their eyes.

The problem for me is I've lived this stuff for 76 years. I'm mixed breed and grew up in a rural area with about 60/40% white to black with a few Mexicans in the mix. You can do the math. It started for me before the turmoil of the late 60s began. I don't have a college degree in psychology. Just observations over time and changes. Interface at every level retiring at a time when my crew was about 50/50. That includes 3 years of military service in the early 70s. My training for Supervisor was extensive and furthered my belief in studying a person, .. any person before deciding how to interface with them.

It was only after I retired that I discovered I was mixed breed. That changed nothing.

There are a few distinct issues and the answers are simple. Problem is it doesn't matter if a group has self hate or self love, until those few simple points are addressed nothing will change for the better.

Just by chance I recently saw an email passed amongst a bunch of public defense lawyers. It supported everything I ever thought.

Really good strategy for growing up and working in that sort of environment I would expect and it sounds like it served you well. I'd be curious what the distinct issues and answers you found were that the public defense lawyers email validated.

I work closely with psychologists and other therapists and grew up with one and still have several in the family.
