I think it's a lot of things. He's always been an idiot, but he's been an affable idiot. He's been affable because he's never really been challenged. Initially he was just a bumbling fool from a small state, then he was Barry's boy, so he was protected by the media. Now, he's in the spotlight, he's being challenged and it turns out that in addition to being incompetent, he is an a-hole. You can be a lot of things and be president, but an a-hole is not one of them. You have to be likable. Even Barry was likable to an extent. Trump was too, until it looked like he would win, then the left decided he was Hitler. The Ukraine corruption story damaged Biden and the press has stopped protecting him. Now he's like the wounded member of the pack and they're going to feast on him.

but to be honest, Biden lasted a lot longer than I predicted.
He's just old, he's not at all what the new democrats want in a candidate...
He's been in Washington since 1973! that's dang near 50 years

He's part of the problem with our politics...he's so old, you can easily label him Establishment and/or Deep State

They wanted his seniority in the Senate. Good for business.
Plus, other than his shenanigans with Clarence Thomas and gun control, Joe was about as moderate a Dem as you could hope for.

He is old and I think major brain surgeries in the 80's are catching up to him. Plus he is out of practice as a campaigner, something he only had to do sparingly since 2008.

He looks like the fricking Crypt Keeper. He looked old by the end of Obama's second term, but he looks ancient now.
He was already a dumb person, then he had an aneurysm that left him permanently cognitively impaired, and now he is at an age where his faculties are declining naturally. This makes it difficult for him to carry on a simple conversation, let alone multitask multiple critical ideas at once under stress. He spent 8 years hidden in the WH closet, so the public wasn't fully aware how bad he had gotten.
The internet has circumvented traditional media, and now everyone can see clips of him groping children and sniffing women without an editor shutting it down before air/print.
His papier-mache lead was exclusively name recognition and media-driven "electability" narrative. Democrats only care about beating Trump (far and away their #1 issue in all polling which unfortunately speaks volumes about America, since I think it was similar in 2012 for the GOP). When the media says nonstop for 2 years that Biden is the most likely to beat Trump, with absolutely zero proof or reasoning mind you, Democrats are going to say they want Biden. Now that reality has broken the media narrative, people are changing their mind.
