What if the plan has been Manchin all along?
He is one of the few Dems that doesn't come across as bat shite crazy. He would do well not only with Dems, but the Never Trumpers, RonBots, and Neocon Nikki crowd.
He is "retiring", but has been more vocal than ever lately.

U might be on to something- Manchin would clean up in the rust belt and then it would be game over for trump - manchin would be a much tougher opponent than Biden
