In the early hours of Friday morning, the Ukrainian military used a US-made HIMARS rocket system to shell a pre-trial detention center in the Yelenovka settlement where captured Ukrainian troops are kept, including members of the Azov battalion.

Killing your own people to keep them quiet does not sound like a very noble thing to do but the Ukrainian regime are the "good guys" here, right?

Court arrests ex-chairman of Constitutional Court in absentia.

According to the State Investigations Bureau, now Oleksandr Tupytskyi could be extradited from Austria, where he currently is. Tupytskyi was earlier charged with unlawfully influencing and bribing a witness to induce false testimony, and giving false testimony himself. On May 27, he was declared wanted after allegedly illegally leaving Ukraine. Tupytskyi told Suspilne media that he will challenge the court's decision.

Currency exchange rates are to be hidden from public sight as hryvnia plunges.

Ukraine’s National Bank tightened the requirements for currency exchange offices in Ukraine, forbidding them from having currency exchange boards placed outside the premises. After the National Bank devalued the hryvnia against the dollar by 25%, setting the official exchange rate to Hr 36.57 per dollar, Ukraine's national currency dropped to Hr 41 per dollar in exchange offices.

Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) detained a Kyiv resident who has allegedly helped 20 men of draft age to flee the country. The man provided them with forged documents that certified that they are students of foreign universities, and charged them $3,500 for the service. He faces up to 5 years in prison. According to martial law, Ukrainian men from 18 to 60 are not allowed to leave the country, with some exceptions for volunteers, students, and other groups.

Pravda? Tass?

quote:

The 100th Territorial Defense Brigade from Lutsk refused to take part in further hostilities as part of a special military operation due to heavy losses.

The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation continue to successfully move forward, and riots are ripening in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"There was a riot in Lutsk. At all times they were suppressed very harshly - usually it ended in mass executions. They decide to riot out of desperation when people realize that nothing good awaits them ahead, and the chances of surviving are minimal."

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that it had officially invited independent experts from the UN and the Red Cross to investigate the shelling of a detention center in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR). The bombing on Friday killed 50 prisoners, and wounded dozens more.

“In the interest of conducting an objective investigation of the strike on the detention center in Yelenovka, which led to the deaths of many Ukrainian prisoners of war, the Russian Federation has officially invited experts from the UN and the International Red Cross Committee,” the ministry said.

The facility in Yelenovka, south of Donetsk, housed hundreds of Ukrainian prisoners – mainly members of the “Azov” neo-Nazi militia who surrendered in Mariupol in May.

According to the Russian military’s earlier statement, the strike was conducted using US-made HIMARS multiple rocket launchers.

“All political, criminal and moral responsibility for the bloodbath against Ukrainians is borne personally by Zelensky, his criminal regime and Washington, which supports them.”

Russian forces have partial success in several directions.

The General Staff of Ukraine's Armed Forces reported on Aug. 2 that the Ukrainian military repelled Russian offensives in several directions in eastern Donetsk and Kharkiv oblasts. However, Russian forces have had partial success in advancing near occupied Horlivka and Donetsk.

Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba was "outraged" by the report accusing Ukraine's military of putting civilians in danger by creating bases and placing weapons in residential areas, including schools and hospitals. Russia has regularly been caught using this excuse to hit Ukraine's civilian areas, like in March 9 attack on the maternity hospital in Mariupol. "Stop creating a false reality where everyone is a little guilty of something," Kuleba said.

Ukraine’s Armed Forces have abandoned the strategic heights near Artyomovsk (the city known as Bakhmut in Ukraine), Vitaly Kiselev, an aide to the Interior Minister of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR), said on Saturday.

"The Ukrainian Armed Forces have abandoned the strategic heights that are shielding Artyomovsk and retreated into the city," he wrote on his Telegram channel.

Kiselev added that the reasons for the Ukrainian troops’ retreat are unknown, "as most of the trenches are intact, so the Ukrainian army could have defended there for quite a long time."

According to the official, the Ukrainian army will not be able to have control over the city for a long time since "these heights make it possible to control the situation."

On August 4, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that units of the 54th Mechanized Brigade, the 56th and 58th Motorized Infantry Brigades of the Ukrainian Armed Forces had lost their combat effectiveness and abandoned their positions near Avdeevka, Artyomovsk and Soledar, located in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).
