We’ve surrendered the initiative so many times there’s really no great options left. My gut says this administration is hoping for some U.N. Intervention in exchange for recognition of the Taliban government or some other foolishness.
If it were me: Tell the Taliban that every American citizen that doesn’t make it home will be one additional JDAM dropped on the homes of their families. Oh, and frick your timeline, we’ll leave when our people are out.
Then blanket the skies with aircraft with regular SoF’s to demonstrate that fact clearly. Those same aircraft should be destroying equipment left behind as well.

Pretty simple
1) start removing citizens and friendlies on May 1, with a goal of 1000 a day. That’s 4-5 flights per day max
2) leave enough troops in position to protect the transport and deter violence
3) point blank tell the Taliban that if any American is killed or harmed that carpet and strategic bombing will begin again
4) destroy all equipment that won’t be transported home
5) by mid August all friendlies should be out and then begin troops withdrawal.
Post screw up, his options are limited to bomb or do nothing. He chose to do nothing.

Theorizing and speculating about "what should be done now" is a little late, since so much of our national treasure has already been slaughtered needlessly, sadly with more to follow.
So to what we already know, am patiently waiting how the Left and some on the so-called Right "reconcile" the embarrassing inconvenient truth that a babe-in-the-woods New York business man knew how to negotiate with 7th Century throwbacks better than 20 years of our military leaders there complemented by academic, classroom, faculty lounge advisors/theorists telling them all about disparate cultures/races who are deep down just like us so they can be reasoned with.
Get it now? We had the correct approach which was already in place until it suddenly changed in Nov of '19.
But we just couldn't stand any more of those mean, coarse posts.

I want the President to come out and answer questions I don't think that is too much to ask. We had all of the leverage and planned the evacuation. Somebody needs to get fired. You cant screw up something this bad and everyone keep their jobs. The American people need to know that there is a clear plan in place and if Biden cant do that he needs to step aside and let the VP take over. We botched our own evacuation and we have been asking people stranded there to go to the Taliban for help.

I will point and laugh a la Nelson from the Simpsons all I want. I've been on the ground there. I've been shot at. I've awoken to mortars exploding near my BHUT. Car bombs exploding near our "gate."
