This thread reminds me of that joke, a person who speaks two languages is bilingual, a person who speaks more than two languages is multilingual, a person who only speaks one language is an American.
As for Canada, a lot of Americans give an ff and the reason is pretty simple to understand (i.e. even you can if you try): Canada is the United State's biggest trading partner.
Concerning the deficit:
The deficit varies from year to year, it went down under Obama and took a huge hit during Covid, skyrocketed the next two years and has been coming down for the last two years
The population of the United States is over 333 million and the population of Canada is less than 39 million so which country is going to import the most goods for it's citizens?
Another point, a third of the trade deficit is in energy goods, the U.S. imports a lot of oil from Canada. You understand that is a commodity that rises and falls in value and it is currently just under $70/bbl but it was higher all of last year and before that so it stands to reason that rising energy costs have contributed to the rising deficit and declining energy costs will no doubt lower it.
