He can’t.

I ended up in an Indian owned chain hotel franchise and asked AI about them and hotels.

This is what I got.

Indian immigrants afford hotels through family-run operations, community lending networks, and reinvesting profits. By keeping overhead low and pooling resources, they scale up from small, distressed properties to large franchises.Their strategy is built on several key practices:Family Labor: Early immigrants (particularly from the Gujarati community) purchased small motels and lived on-site. Spouses and children handled all operations—cleaning, cooking, and the front desk—eliminating payroll costs.Community Lending: Facing difficulties securing traditional bank loans and insurance, immigrants relied on tight-knit networks. Relatives and community members pooled funds and offered handshake loans to help one another buy properties.Reinvestment & Scaling: Profits were heavily reinvested. Once a small motel became profitable, owners would leverage that equity to purchase larger properties or expand into well-known franchises like Best Western, Days Inn, and eventually Hilton and Marriott.Distressed Assets: During economic downturns (such as the 1970s oil crisis), they acquired struggling, lower-cost highway properties that others abandoned.
