Simple. One day there will be another Dem president with a Senate majority.

Other than that...none.

is there anything that stops them from changing supreme court noms to simple majority while hes in office and then changing back in a couple years(perhaps even making much harder to change again)?

Sure, they could do that.

And then the Dems would just change it again when they had the opportunity to take advantage of it.

I don't know much about it. What is the reason people don't want to use it?
The continued regression of politics and the purpose of a Republic system; although, this would be far from the only example.

Same negative the Dems are now reaping for what they sowed when they used it for federal officers and lower court appointments. Eventual reciprocity.

So what? Getting a few life long conservative appointments to SCOTUS would be more than worth any future repercussions.

What goes around comes around. Dems will one day have all the power again, and they can get in some crazy lunatic leftist.

So? Kill them now...before they can reproduce their poison!

Nuclear option wont be needed, there are too many Dem Senators up for re-election in Red States.

Famous last words.

Take no chances. Destroy their power now!

None.

The fear is that someday the GOP will not have the Senate and they will get fricked. Of course, when they had the Senate (other than Garland [but that was not a filibuster]), they still let Obama's picks for SC through (Kagan and the wise Latina).

They should dispose of the filibuster for all legislation and then, if they lose the Senate, pass a new Rule re-establishing it and requiring a supermajority to change it.

Well Orrin Hatch has already said he won't support it so you'd need every other GOP Senator on board which I doubt will happen.

The choice was already made unfortunately. That die is cast.
