If true, Putin is drawing a strong line in the sand.
If NATO and/or the US doesn't respond after all this bluster, Putin will go in and begin retaking all of the former Soviet states. Eventually he'll look to Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia and then what will NATO do?

Most of them, most likely. Putin grew up in the USSR so he sees those countries as part of his own country. If Ukraine falls, Moldova will be next (probably willingly, at least if their last President was any indication). Belarus, even moreso. The 'stans seem to still be friendly to Russia (haven't looked into all of them yet though) and getting at least Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan back into the fold would give Russia dominating control of the Caspian and all of the O&G fields there as well as once again providing an unimpeded route to their Iranian allies.
