"We have to do something!" of the day: Regulating social media

so there is not much doubt that Russia used social media to create issues among our population in order to disrupt our election. shouldn't this lead to common sense regulation of social media? government approval of posts, accounts, etc.

It's time for common sense speech control. If it saves just one democratic election process, isn't that enough?

common sense regulations of protests, too, since Russia influenced those as well

Something must be done IMO. Talk is not enough, it's time for action. Everyone who wants to post on social media or attend a protest must be subject to a thorough background check and mental fitness examination by a qualified physician.

There’s no way th founding fathers could have anticipated Twitter. The 1A only applies to quill pens. shite down social media. “Do something!!!”

No one needs the ability to post to social media once every few seconds. How many thoughts can you possibly have in a day anyway? One account with one post per hour is all anyone should need.

We need a ministry of truth that screens all twitter and facebook post prior to publication.

people who want to attack one right without attacking other rights are hypocrites. if you want to have an honest discussion everything has to be on the table

Continuously attacking one fundamental constitutional right certainly wouldn't lead to attacking another, right?

and that makes you not only a hypocrite, but also a fascist-authoritarian. own it

How come nobody ever discusses the things the US government does to try to affect other countries elections? I am sure we do it all the time. Actually I think we should do things to strengthen our position in the world.
Of course the Russians meddled. Maybe not for either side but just to cause friction and turmoil. And there has been zero evidence presented that Trump colluded with them.
If we have an honest discussion there is much more information that the Russians would have preferred Hillary as President. First she was a buffoon with the whole "reset button" crap. And whose "charity" received MILLIONS of dollars for selling 20% of our Uranium to the Russians?
It wasn't Trump.

so, by your standards, i should be able to have newscasters and journalists prevented from disseminating news or, hell, speaking in public, if i feel they're mentally deficient, too, right?
