That's the objective... it will then be replaced with a history that the progressives want people to believe

Munch, I salute your ancestor, sir. It should be noted that the VA provides these headstones, free of charge, to Confederate veterans, who are recognized as Veterans, not traitors by the US gov. This should settle the traitor arguement for all concerned except asshats with an agenda.

They get to write the books, but doesn't mean they are true.

Some may have taken my statement that R.E. Lee was a traitor as a statement that I did not respect him. Quite the contrary. I said that he was an honorable man and I admire him.

By definition, he was a traitor to the United States. He was an Officer in the United States Army and swore to defend the nation. He then took up arms, and indeed led the CSA Army, against the United States in open rebellion.

I believe that Lee was torn by his decision. People like Lee did not violate oaths lightly. But he said that he could not draw his sword against Virginia. So, he followed his conscience and did what he thought was the right thing. When the hostilities were over he again pledged his allegiance to the Union.

I have a tremendous respect for Robert E. Lee as a soldier and as a human being. He was an honorable man and the University should be ashamed for hiding away a part of the man's history.

Secession was nothing new, several New England states threatened to secede over the Louisiana Purchase. Several more threatened over the 1858 fugitive slave act. What it boiled down to more than anything else was money and power. Anyone who thinks it was traiterous to side with the south I have to ask if the situation came up today what would you do? Would you side with the north and watch and participate in the destruction of your home, family, friends. Could you standby as your hometown was burned to the ground? I would have to defend my home and family.

Ben, I could not put it better. It has been reported that less than 10% of Confederates owned slaves(slavery was a major cause, not the only one). This was a complicated time.

The political climate then was so similar to the political climate that we have now it is almost scary.
