Was there a thread about JBE Pushing to raise minimum wage?

Siap but I just saw where JBE made a social media post about pushing to raise minimum wage in Louisiana. Will this be a key component of his re-election campaign?

He is hitting all of the lib check marks, promise teacher pay raises, raise minimum wage, free health and child care, etc.

He hates private business (unless of course they give him a bunch of money like health care providers or video poker companies or road builders).

I've been to y'alls fast food places a number of times and I can unequivocally state that the vast majority of them barely deserve $5/hr, let alone whatever rate he might throw out.

I know some might get triggered, but I honestly think $7.25 an hour in 2019 as the minimum wage is really fricking low. Not saying it needs to be $15 at all, but at least a modest raise is needed. Bad thing is that even if a modest increase is approved, there will still be backlash that it is supposedly not enough.

There should not be any laws regarding minimum wage.

Its common sense. If the minimum wage goes up the cost of goods and services will also go up. Plus if you raise minimum wage, all other levels of wage should of up too, or workers will expect that anyway.

The government should not prevent people from working at whatever wage they want to work for.
Why should someone who cannot find a job at more than $7.25 be prevented from taking a $5 an hour job that might be available to him if the law allowed???

Same could be said from company perspective if they only want to pay 5 an hour they will get the quality of work they are willing to pay for.

I'm all for a return to the Lochner era, but I think $9-10 an hour should be an acceptable wage before taxes.

Some people aren't worth that in marginal utility and laws that control wages price them out of the market.

Besides the point, return to Lochner would be good? I think in 2019, people should be free to contract as they wish. Overturn West Coast Hotel v. Parrish.

Zero sum game, minimum wage goes up, products go up. I will say this as a business owner, if they push through $15 an hour, you will see massive layoffs and business closings. The large corporations are behind the minimum wage push. They know they can automate, and they also know it will push the mom and pop businesses out. All I can say is keep asking for it. I currently employee about 30 at my restaurant, if they push it to $15, I can't go up on prices enough to cover that cost. I'll probably layoff at least half of my staff.

If you can't afford to pay all of your employees a living wage for full time work, then you shouldn't be in business. It's as simple as that.

I guess I'll get in line with all of the other business owners that can't pay a "living wage." The good thing, the New Green Deal offers a salary for those who can't find work, or, those unwilling to work. I guess I can kick back and live off of those that are making that "living wage."

Most places already pay that, including fast food. Very few places still pay minimum wage. The real problem is that most minimum workers are only part time and have to get multiple jobs.

No, most places don't pay $15 an hour. I agree that most don't pay $7.25, but you'll find more around the $10 an hour rate than $15.
Posted on 2/26/19 at 8:48 pm to Tim
Yeah I'm not saying $15 an hour but $9-10 is more common than minimum wage. Most of those jobs are only 25-30 hours a week though.

I won't argue that. I have employees that don't want 40 hours. I have some HS kids. $15 an hour for a dishwasher in 11th grade. People have lost their mind.

Read with a dose of sarcasm.
And I honestly think a Big Mac meal deal should be $14. How does that fit in poor poeple's budgets? So this will solve everything
