It did kill his attempts at a run for President

The tragedies of John/Bobby (and $ of course) made the family sympathetic untouchables. I had family that lived on Cape Cod for years and everyone up there knew of many skeletons in the Kennedy closet.
It was common knowledge that cousin Michael Skakel killed the Moxley girl in the 70s (he spent a lot of time at the Hyannis Port compound and was always considered a strange kid). Unreal he got away with it until 2002.
Many stories still circulate up there about sketchy activities associated with the family.

The only thing people really know about Chappaquiddick is that there was an accident involving Kopechne and Kennedy, and that Kopechne died in the accident. Everything else is pure speculation and hearsay.
Ted Kennedy did a lot for disabled people, including veterans.

I agree.Look at the crap JFK was doing his whole life.
He didn't just start banging every women in sight when he was POTUS.
Their father taught them that if you have enough money and nerve you can get away with what you want.Rules don't apply to you.
But,yeah.Driving drunk into the water with a woman that's not your wife;escaping and leaving her to drown, leaving the scene, should end a political career.

Teddy was also famous for that "where was George?" speech at the Democratic National Convention in 1988. A month later, when the GOP held their convention in New Orleans, French Quarter T shirt shops sold shirts that said...Chappaquiddick...where was Ted?
Also, the National Lampoon produced this little goodie:

That and Ted decided to swim back to his hotel and get some sleep before calling the police

Do you have a credible source to back that accusation? I know he admitted to making a phone call and he didn't stop at one of the houses to request help.

It is fantastic and sad all at the same time.
Americans have been conditioned for generations to allow Democrats to literally get away with murder. No wonder they are the monsters they are today.

Because his brothers had their heads shot off (not that that wasn't a bad thing), Ted got to do whatever he wanted for the rest of his life./

Ted Kennedy was one of the luckiest politicians alive...
The country's attention was to one of the greatest achievements in world history when details of Cappaquiddick were coming out...

And herein lies the problem. The fact that he voted for legislation that helped a certain group of people in no way makes up for the fact that his irresponsible behavior one night led to the death of a young woman.
I remember this whole sordid tragedy well. After the accident, he waited hours before reporting it to police. He had to first confer with the family attorney to see what to do. No normal citizen could get away with this.
That whole family is a disgusting bunch.

He was a democrat and they could care less what kind of person they support as long as their agenda is being pushed. Ted Kennedy was a POS human being and a drunk and they continued to put him in office.
