Was Equal Opportunity the downfall of our country?

would we have as many problems today if we didn't hire people because of color or gender? Is this a part of our problem?

American companies have hired more people solely because of their color and gender the past 20 years of this country's history than they did in the first 200.

Equal opportunity isn't bad.
But it has been perversed by the left to mean equal outcome. It has become as dangerous (or synonymous) as communism.

As a straight white male (aka cis gender devil) I believe in EO (Equal Opportunity). However EO (Equal Opportunity) does not result in the new EO (Equal Outcome).
Being a cis devil, I don't fully understand why the old EO became the new EO and for that I'm supposed to be ashamed. Everyone should have equal opportunity but no one is guaranteed equal outcome. I have other "cis devil" friends whose children had the same chance at success as my demon spawn but have failed miserably. Should my demon spawn be passed over because others fell victim to their own devil inside? Or should he rise on tainted (still cis devil) angle wings to achieve what he can without being brought down because of the misfortunes of others he knows?
I'm so confused.
