It reads that Connolly announced in April he wasn't seeking reelection due to his cancer resurgence... it also made it seem like his health suddenly turned for the worst.
Maybe he actually wasn't another Feinstein..

I have empathy for Gerry and his family as cancer is horrible for all involved.

Yes true. But also because it often takes decades to build seniority in Congress. For example, after serving 16 years and at age 74, Connolly became a Committee Ranking Member for the first time.
